Does anyone have any friends that were hired by Emirates Airlines? I would love to get in touch with them and ask a few questions about working at that airline.

Please have them contact me at [email protected] or give me their email address after you clear it with them.

Thanks.

Ya'll find plenty of info on Emirates over at www.pprune.com

The airline is probably a good workplace, but keep the location in mind: Middle East.
If I never see that region again, it will be too soon.....Althought Dubai is a fairly nice place compared to sh!tholes like Saudi Arabia..

The guys I know at Emirates were hired back in the mid 80s. From what they say, it is much tougher to get on there now. American pilots used to be highly regarded, but are not now. Good luck.

Since Emirates didn't start until 1985 and was mostly staffed by Pakistan International pilots at that time I'm wondering how you know them

Care to elaborate on that statement ? or is this just a broad generalization ?

Just a broad generalization sir, their words not mine. These guys were with Evergreen before Emirates.

Typhoon,

My appologies. I just spoke with a friend of one of the guys mentioned and found out that he was referencing Saudi Arabian Airlines where he worked prior. Sorry for the bad scoop. Didn't have time to discuss Emirates.

I'm sorry, I'm still not following. Are we certain that the airline your friends are working at (worked at) is Emirates in Dubai. There are no former Evergreen pilots here who were hired in the 1980s. The most senior American was hired in 1996 and came from USAir. The second most senior was hired in 2002 and came from Sri Lankan. Of course, I'm still assuming your friends are American. If they are not then it becomes more plausible.

That said, your friends statement is actually not far off. The Americans who were here near the beginning, ex Eastern late 80s/early 90s, left something of a bad after taste. Not all of them, but it only takes one to ruin it for all of us. When I was hired it was very difficult for an American to get an interview. That has since changed due to a change of policy from the President of the airline, who near the same time banned the hiring of Australians for a year.

Just saw your response as I was typing this, thought I keep it here though as it does have some information that could be valuable to other people lurking on the boards.

I know an ex-Evergreen guy that flew A-310s for Emirates back in the early 90s.
He was not a Yank however, Evergreen had a European base and hired locals as the US pilots did not fancy the commute and the cost of living in Frankfurt.

Slightly off topic perhaps.......
