Universal now charges around $150 just to quote a trip - which is BS.

Have extra money for tipping those airport folk... it will get things done quicker and sometimes get you out of a bind.

While I never had them charge for a quote....they are ridiculous and have very mediocre service...trips that Universal quotes 25k for we can do for 5k.

yep, universal is not what they use to be. I have been very disappointed with them and can no longer recommend their service.

So is it unanimous? Colt is the way to go?

Fortunately we don't go to Cancun, but I have heard that the fbo there will take care of the paperwork for you if you call them.

As for Colt, I have used them for trips to Latin Amer destinations that are new to us and have never had a problem. I think they charge about $160 for setting up a trip on top of the handlers fees and weather flight plans etc. are extra. I have never been charged for estimating trip charges either.

Cancun FBO will set you up with customs in and out of Mexico, but the US they won't.

Even if you use a handler, I suggest you know what they are supposed to be doing. They do a lot of trips and it is easy for them to miss a small, yet very important piece of paperwork. I would also suggest fueling as early as possible. Getting fuel in Mexico can be time consuming. Best to get it when you land if at all possible.

Do a google search on Private Flyers Guide to US Customs.

...eAPIS allowing you to store pax info yet? .....entering that info is so time-consuming

ditto on the fueling, get it after you land. If pax agree try for a 10PM+ departure, assuming US Customs is going to be open when you land. In November you won't have the typical WX issues (T-Storms, etc) to deal with. Also a Tuesday or Wednesday arrival and/or departure will help mitigate some of the delays.
