Anyone know of a crash pad at EYW or cheaper places to live their?

There are no cheap places to live there unless you go down a few Keys. Air Midwest and Gulfstream domicle there so I would go to the airport and put up a sign in each ops area. There are also people who rent out rooms, talk to the Air Middie crews, I know a few stay over at this one guys house.

what would your life be like if you were based and lived in EYW? is there alot of stuff to do? is it really expensive, aside from rent?

could you be more specific please? i may have to make this choice soon and am looking for some 3rd party opinions.

KW is quite gay. They've done great things for real estate, and generally keep things nice. KW is okay if you are a Buffet type. Drinking, boats, fishing, drinking, boats. Seriously, there isn't anything to do there. If you want shopping and a break from the island fever(you'll need it), you'll have to drive to Miami, about 2.5 hours and if it's a holiday about 5 hours. I lived there for a few years, and don't miss it one bit. If you're into the laid-back lifestyle- it may work for you. Duval street is a dump, with homeless people and daily bar fights. They are cleaning that up slowly. Good luck.

advertised crash pads are $500 and up, i cant even imagine what a 2 bedroom goes for. Drinking all the time is cool but yeah I do want to hit up a best buy or a nice clothes store every now and then. Ive been there a few times and i remember the bums on the street but there are alot of parties and bars going on at any time of the day, at the same time theres are a lot of flamers roaming around as you've helped me remember. I dunno some other people said its ok, ill have to make up my own mind, thank for the input guys.

What is so idiotic about basing crews in Key West

Lets see, one of the highest cost of living in the US, paired with one of the lowest paying jobs in the US. Yeah I'de say that wouldn't breed any harsh feelings towards your company.

Key West is high but I wouldnt say it was one of the highest costs of living in the US. The guys I know based out of key west love it and they are making very little money.

I'm not gay and the 5 times ive been to key west, i have to admit it was in the spring, ive had some of the best of times. spent a lot of money though...also i wasnt partying with locals either.

This thread is about a year old. Air Midwest has been out of there for a couple months but I'm pretty sure GIA is still there.

i even think the GIA guys and gals get a $3/hr increase over there normally low wages for being based in eyw.

Cape Air EYW

Cape air offers housing for pilots in EYW or a 1 dollar per hour overide for cost of living. The base is mainly seasonal and closes to two lines in the summer time.
