Hm. Bush fell down trail riding.

Kerry fell down on the street (And on the mountain).

What a little baby.

Bigger point:

IS THIS SOMETHING HE THINKS WILL HELP HIM GAIN A POLITICAL ADVANTAGE???!!!

This statement is dumber than ANYTHING that Bush has supposedly said.

Next he will start criticizing Bush's choice of neckties?

This is the guy you want in charge of international diplomacy.

Morons.

Incidentally, anyone who has looked at Bush's athletic endeavors lately will note that he is in tip-top shape and could a very competitive runner in his age group

Like anything said to Drudge is off the record!

A 17-mile bike ride for a man his age? That is pretty impressive to me. I don't know too many children that can do that length of a ride. Heck, I probably would have fallen down after the first block! :D

Kerry is by far the most unprofessional and crass politician I have ever seen. The guy has got a problem and so do we if he makes it into office.

Unless he was going extremely slowly it's a 2 hour ride. They go up and down the island for hours on end down here.

But sheesh are we starting to argue which one is in better shape? Jesus... they are both in half descent shape. I prefer to vote on the issues, and who has the best looking smile.

Funny, Bush has spent more time away from his job than any president in U.S. history. Maybe he should start worrying about the pulse of our nation instead of worrying about his own.

Flame away.

When Bush learns to pronounce "nuclear," we'll talk about acting professional. For a man who speaks for a living, he's remarkably bad at it.

And this is not a liberal calling Bush dumb -- this is an American who worked hard in school who's embarassed by his leader's poor diction every time he opens his trap.

The modern President does more work during a week of their so called vacations, than most of us do in a month.

Let's see you prove that claim...

Oh come now, bart. Nothing constructive to say?

I was making a very subtle point.

Let me be more obvious:

Saying that a President speaks for a living is like saying a pilot pre-flights aircraft for a living. Sure it is part of the job and important, but not all of it.

There. Much better. Doesn't sound quite so abusive. :D

From the USA Today 08/03/01-WASHINGTON — Six months after taking office, President Bush will begin a month-long vacation Saturday that is significantly longer than the average American's annual getaway. If Bush returns as scheduled on Labor Day, he'll tie the modern record for presidential absence from the White House, held by Richard Nixon at 30 days. Ronald Reagan took trips as long as 28 days.

From the BOP April 14, 2004This story ties together two previously unrelated subtexts of the pre- and post- 9/11 period:
1) Did the President's somewhat excessive vacations impact his information flow (and therefore his decision making) during the months before pre-911? In other words, was the President of the United States "Out of the Loop?"

By Tamara Straus, AlterNet
August 14, 2001

George W. Bush may present himself as a down-home American, but when it comes to vacation time his tastes are decidedly European. This August the President is on leave from Washington for the whole month, in what will be the longest presidential vacation in 32 years. Combine that time off with the quarter of his presidency he has spent on his Crawford, Texas ranch and the 38 full or partial days at the Camp David retreat, and Mr. Bush will have spent 42 percent of his presidency at vacation spots or en route.

Being well-spoken proves nothing about the ability of a man to do his job.

Caring so much about it proves a remarkable lack of perspective on the role of the president.

You would be the guy who would buy a freshly painted piece of crap airplane instead of one with faded paint and solid mechanicals.

Over-emphasis on packaging is the mark of the unrefined reasoner.

I'm guessing your Trans Am has spinner hubs and a wing on both the trunk and roof?

Dude, the Prez is never "on vacation". He may be away from DC, but he ain't on vacation. Just a little bit of attention paid to current events should show you that the nuclear football is still around when he is on "vacation". He continues to receive daily briefings, he continues to make decisions, he just doesn't stop attending to matters of State when he leaves Washington.

If you don't like the guy, or disagree with him, fine. But you don't gain much credibility when you come up with stupid stuff like this vacation thing. I can come up with better than this, and I'm a right wing Republican. Jeez.

:-)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Kerry on Bush

It's not about whether Bush is actually working or not while he's away from Washington. It's the perception that he's taking a vacation all the time. No doubt he's still "working" while in Crawford but you have to remember that America is a nation of "C" students, most of whom don't see him as being "at work" while away from D.C.

He's the leader of the free world for heaven's sake. Don't you think he ought to spend a little more time in front of his nation and the world at least giving the impression that he's in Washington doing his job.

Hey dude, you're just flat wrong

Simply saying that no other president in the history of the country has been on vacation more the President Bush doesn't make it true!

Ever heard of Dwight D. Eisenhower? Man had a REPUTATION for being a better golfer than Cabinet meeting planner. Moreover Americans loved him for it - they gave him two terms!

See the trouble with you liberals is that you think that if you say it everyone has to believe you. I would ask, on what credit? The facts aren't on your side. I can't quite figure out why it is that you guys think that floating a lie as the truth will work. It takes guns, an army, and a willingness to turn them on your own people to do that. The Russians had that, the East Germans had that, the Polish had that, the Rumanians had that, Castro and China STILL have it. That's why they get away with the lies that make up THEIR history - folks are just too afraid to talk about their recollections of things.

We don't have that here so it won't work here.

It's not about whether Bush is actually working or not while he's away from Washington. It's the perception that he's taking a vacation all the time.

Who the hell do you think creates that PERCEPTION. Lemme see it's not that vast right wing conspiracy or conservative talk radio. Hmm, who else would have the power to do that. Oh yeah, it's the people who deliver our news every night. Rather, Brokaw, Jennings and a host of support crew that revolve around around them adding fuel to the fire.

For the record they call it a vacation ANY TIME the president leaves Washington in the summer. At least Bush stays in the country. Here's what 5 minutes of quality time with Google came up with. You're not the only one who can do research.

Jan. 4, 1997 - Clinton was on "vacation" in the Virgin Islands. http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1997/01/04/clinton.vacation/index.shtml

Sept. 7, 1997 - Then, just eight months later Clinton spends THREE weeks on "vacation" on Martha's Vinyard. This one was rough though - lotsa people died in the world while he was there. http://www.s-t.com/daily/09-97/09-07-97/b08sr096.htm

Aug. 31, 1998 - Clinton goes on "vacation" right after he gets caught NOT having sexual relations with that woman - Miss Lewinsky - and having to admit that he'd lied. How much of a vacation could that have been? Two weeks with Hillary - ON ANOTHER ISLAND??? http://www-tech.mit.edu/V118/N36/clinton.36w.html

You get the idea. Presidents go on "vacation" because the press tells us they do. Being president of the United States is the most important job in the whole world. There's no such thing as a "vacation" in that job. Now you might certainly argue that the importance of the job is the best reason to vote Bush out of office, but let's not play stupid games with what the media feeds us about "vacations." They're out to lunch on the matter.
