Just had a friend call and said he saw something on the news with a 747, red and gold, had a tailstrike on T/O out of KEWR and had to return. They mentioned major damage.

Sounded like Kalitta colors and I know they fly out of there a lot?

Nothing on Yahoo? Anyone?

The damage was minimal, in fact, twas able to make 10 revenue legs before it had to repaired for good. How do I know?? I flew it and saw the paperwork from Boeing. Was not a tail strike at all! More like FOD damage, and the details have really not been sorted out, so any speculation is way too premature!

The runway is FOD? :D

A BOEING 747 AIRCRAFT, ON DEPARTURE STRUCK RUNWAY LIGHTS AND PAVEMENT, RETURNED AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT, NO INJURIES REPORTED, DAMAGE REPORTED AS MINOR,

I think it took off from JFK on a repo flt to EWR where it landed as planned. The damage was found after. Not a tailstrike by the way possibly rwy lights.

That's correct. Definitely not a tail strike.
Repositioning flight from JFK to EWR.
Flat tire (tires?) and minor damage to stab in EWR. Runway lights damaged at JFK.
Further FAA and internal investigations underway.
