A friend asked me, Yo, bubba, I have a job offer from Kalitta and one from Souther Air, dude which one should I take?

I took a swig of my drink and said, Son, if you have to make that choice......

This is what I found courtesy of the "other" site:

.....................................Southern vs. Kalitta
Pilots:...........................160 vs. 301
Year 1 pay CA/FO:....... $81/$57 vs. $41/$60
Year 5 pay CA/FO: .......$117/$75 vs. $110/$75
Year 10 pay CA/FO: .....$141/$87 vs. $127/$86
- Most junior captain: ...Jan ’06 vs. Aug ‘04
Guarantee:....................60hrs vs. 61hrs
Per diem:......................$2.00/$2.00 vs. $1.50/$2.05
401k:............................Yes vs. Yes

Looks like they are fairly similar, possible quicker upgrade at Southern and they seem to be paying a little more, but I don’t know much about either. I'd have to say Fedex or UPS? ;) Good luck!

I don't fly ACMI, but a friend of mine does and I asked him the same question once.

He told me this;

Most ACMI's are all different circuses, just run by the same clowns.

I would say try to go to World or Omni. Same circus clowns but at least they pay a little better to wear the big red shoes and nose.

True, but we can take off the nose when we're in the cockpit. ;)

You have me for sure with that one. We are required to keep the goofy red nose for the duration of the flight....LOL

Since I’m bored and you brought up World, here are their numbers » they seem to have slower upgrade but pay seems to be higher. Also 2 more pay raises, 4% raise on March 1, 07 and 3 % March 1, 2008. Of course A-fund really helps too.

Southern Per Diem goes to $2.25 this year and $2.50 in 2009. 5% pay raise in 2008.

For anyone considering this type flying, keep in mind how many days that you will be "on the hook". Kalitta's current contract is 17 days a month. Not sure about Southern or World.

World is currently building open time lines with 12 known days off. You are on the hook for the rest. It is an improvement acquired in the last contract. If you cabn't stand 18+/- days on the road this is not the kind of flying for you.

If you have to jumpseat into work and back home, that will impact your number of days at home as well.
