We just got a memo from the training department that all new hires that go the the classic will be type rated. All training/check-rides will be in the left seat. OE will take place in the right seat. This is same way the 400 newhires are trained.

Not to mention that this will be a regulation by 2013 that all pilots will have to hold a full type rating and not the SIC type rating. It's about time too on this.

Are all your classic 747's 200 series aircraft or do you still have a few 100's kicking around ?

We have one 100 still flying (712CK). Hopefully retirement is not too far away for her.

Thanks for the info. How do you like flying for Connie ? I am former AWA/current USAirways who has had it up to here with the post-merger drama from the easties and have been seriously thinking about other options. I have spent some time prior to getting hired at AWA flying DC8's for ATI so I'm somewhat familar with the ACMI pilot lifestyle. Any insight on Kalitta, the good, bad and ugly would be appreciated . Thx.

There is supposed to be another class starting on the 31st january and training were told to expect classes through to August.

There are interviews this week with more to come and the company needs to up it's crews a lot. The slow down is getting them through training and IOE right now. January flying has slowed a little from December but not by much.

Are most newhires going to the 400 these days? What percentage will go to the 100/200 going forward?

I know this has been asked before (probably many times), but any big difference in terms of schedule between the 200 and 400? Do you fly more on the 400 during your 18 days out?

In the class that just finished grondschool, 1/3 went to the 400 2/3's to the 200. The 400 is good for the type rating although now ALL new hires are going to be typed directly on the 200 but if you want to make any money the 200 is where you need to be as most don't break guarantee on the 400.
