Any moron that drops down 900.00 for a pair of headsets will tell you they are the best...

$900 a pair?? you better look at the Bose ads again... try $900 and change APIECE!!

"Bose: No highs, no lows, must be Bose." - In reference to their speakers/sound systems.

"Bose. Better sound through marketing." - Should be their slogan (subbed marketing for research).

Seriously, bose blows so much $$ on marketing. Think about it, the highest quality manufacturers seldom advertise. They don't have to, their products sell themselves. Ya, I think Bose is overpriced for what you get. They have to be to pay for all the advertising. Advertising that tries to justify the price in the first place.

I've used both the Telex 50D's, and the Bose 1k wonders, and honestly I thought the Telex was just as good a performer, for much less money.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I am having the same problems that you are. I feel that they are not quiet enough for a $1000. I am in the process of sending them back for a new pair. I hope that I do have a problem, because if this is normal, people are getting screwed. My theory (which I hope to be false)on the Bose is that its a lightweight headset that is loud as hell with the ANR off. When the ANR is turned on, it does quiet down wich makes people think that the Bose is the greatest thing ever. However, there is almost no difference between the bose with the ANR on and my DC H10-60's.

Update: I went back into the Bose store today to test my headset out with the one on display side by side. I put the apollo 13 launch on almost full blast and listened to the headsets side by side. They were pretty silent except for i could still hear a little bit of the voices in the movies. Which is no big deal since id ont think they are designed to cancel those kinds of sounds out.

They also had a soundtrack of a 747 during cruise. I popped that in and turned it up pretty loud. I could still hear quite a bit with ANR turned off, but as soon as i turned it on it got really really quiet. I'm guessing that the headset is mainly filtering out the lower frequency sounds. Since those are the types of sounds that will damage your hearing. Long exposure to low and loud sounds will damage your hearing starting from the higher frequencies down.

Anyways... i have a flight tomorrow and i will switch headsets with my instructor that uses a DC. This way he can see how they are and i will be able to test out a different set of headsets.

I tend to have really really sensitive hearing. I actually treasure that because i know some people that have lost a little of their hearing and it really kind of sucks. I dont mind paying more money even if the Bose headsets are just a little quieter. I plan to fly commercially in the future, so this one time investment is worth it to me. Prior to all of this i searched for the word "headset" on the search function. 9 out of 10 posts related to the thread all said "bose". So i was pretty confident that it said something. The store was running a 60 day money back guarantee because of the christmas holidays. They said that they wanted everyone to enjoy 30 full days even if they got the products as gifts. There was also 18 months interest free now so that was an even better bonus. Worst case scenario in a couple of years i sell my Bose on ebay in the future. I've seen them go for at least $700 on there before used.

Anyways... i'll let you guys here how it goes with the purchase.

By the way, i solo tomorrow too!! YAY! i'm kind of excited.

I wish I had a nice headset like that when I started out.

Muahaha! How about the days of NO headphones and using a trucker mic. Remember having that mic sitting in your lap, taking your hand off the throttle to use it.

PTT and headphones sure makes life much easier, sort of like the GPS vs NDBS. Technology for the win.

Breaker, Breaker 1-9....What's your 20?

Actually, i flew with them again today. I turned the ANR off and on while i was in cruise in the air. Wow! These things really quiet the airplane down. I didn't notice before. Another thing that i noticed is that with the volume all the way down my instructos on the other side was still kind of loud. Plus ATC is so much clearer at a lower volume. I think they are working like they should. So... i'm fairly happy now.

Well, mine must be messed up... When I put them on (not in an airplane) and turn the ANR on, I can hear a lot of static noise. I had a student once that let me try his out in the same manner and it was 100% quite. Hopefully my new one will be perfect.
