Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen -

I would like to try and request the jumpseat on an AA flight out of LAX on 6/28.

I have not jumpseated on AA recently. Are there any AA folks out there who could answer two questions?

1. Does the Captain/ FLight OPS allow unlimited J/S riders if there are seats available in the cabin?

2. Do I need to list as a non-rev, and if so, could you provide the non-rev phone number. It was just a 23 minute wait on the main res line to get to an agent just to find the number.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Respectfully,
Metrojet

Last time I called the non-rev number (888-933-5922), the agent told me that they don't list jumpseaters anymore over the phone. This was about 2 weeks ago. I haven't tried since.

And I believe they do offer unlimited jumpseaters.

I'm non-AA though, just thought I would try to help.

Good luck.

Metrojet,

Jumping out of LAX you need a boarding pass from the ticket counter unless your airline operates from LAX. Other than that just go to the gate. The nonrev listing is no more. Also AA is unlimited if you'r company reciprocates. Must be CASS to ride up front.

I frequently ride on AA and have found that the agents are much happier if you list for the jumpseat at the ticket counter, rather than the gate. An agent told me that in order to check CASS they have to exit out of the reservation system and it's a huge hassle. I've never had any trouble listing at the ticket counter, but many gruff, cranky agents at the gate counter.

Just telling it like it is. I always approach any agent at American with extreme politeness. I never act like I'm entitled to the jumpseat and always let customers ahead of me in the line. I realize that it's inconvenient for the agent. But I'm not exaggerating when I call some of the agents grumpy or cranky. Some are just downright rude. My personal solution to this problem is to go to the ticket counter if I have the time. My comments are not directed solely at American agents, as I see agents at my own carrier act incredibly rude to customers and employees all the time.

I wish. AA is only unlimited if they believe that doing so is beneficial to AA. My carrier offers unlimited to AA but AA does not allow us the equivilent access. The AA crews I speak to are 99% excellent, but the computer rules. If your carrier is D6L, you will be left behind unless you were the first guy in line, regardless of the number of empty seats in the back. It is what it is.

DorkProp, AA agents have been decent to me, but mostly I jump out of South Florida, Texas, and Washington DC. The Station manager at DCA spent fifteen minutes working with me last winter because he was somewhat uncertain of AA's new CASS procedures and he couldn't make the computer work the way he expected. I attempted to convince him that I hated for him to waste his time on me, but he would have none of that; he kept working until he got me on the airplane.

I just smile, stay out of the way, and walk away without showing any emotion if things don't go my way. There's no other way to successfully jumpseat.

Good Luck to all of my commuting bros

No boarding pass required in LAX for terminal 1.

It has to be negotiated. We (pilots) can go on our company web site and print out the latest list of carriers that we have an agreement with. Smart Capts will always have a copy of it in their kit bag. It is quite a long list. If your co. is not on it call your jumpseat guru and ask him why not.

He means the "unlimited jumpseaters" list. They are on the list of approved carriers but if someone has arrived before them, they are out of luck. TC

That's what I mean. The list I referred to has carriers that are jumpseat approved domestic and/or international and/or unlimited. If his co. is lacking any of these qualifications he should go to his jumpseat coordinator and ask why. It certainly isn't the AA ticket agents fault.

Glass--I think he meant that his company's jumpseat people were actively pursuing the issue but APA's jumpseat committee wasn't interested or at least it wasn't a high priority. TC

OK, I got ya! What is D6L anyway?

PSA was a D6L even though we give unlimited jumpseats to all pilots. US Air was a D6U. Even though we're a wholly-owned, I was left behind twice because of the D6L nonsense. Fortunately, now that we're CASS, PSA is part of the US database, and therefore a D6U.

If you look again at my original post, you'll see that I actually defended the AAgents.

Our jumpseat coordinator is, and has been, actively pursuing the unlimited agreement. Apparently, we just don't fly into enough AA bases to convince AA (not APA, but AA the corporation) that we can actually reciprocate.

AA pilots,

What's the deal with First Class for offline jumpseaters? I jumpseat on AA quite a bit, I'm always friendly, presentable, etc yet I NEVER get offered a first class seat even if they are open. Is there a policy against this?

I'm just asking because it seems like most airlines, including mine, go out of their way to put js's in first if it's available.

Just curious

That's because most airlines' FA's don't despise--yes, DESPISE pilots. Everything aft of the cockpit door belongs to the FA's and you should be thankful "they" let you on "their" airplane at all. TC

wow, sounds like a cozy work environment...

If you are on one of my flights, you will probably be in First if there is a seat. If the CA doesn't offer, I jump in and casually suggest to him/her to put you guys up front. I haven't encountered any opposition yet. Just today we put a Republic pilot up in First to PHL after I let the #1 F/A know. The problem is that it is not part of the "culture" here at AA to upgrade jumpseaters.... and we have too many weak dick captains who don't give it a second thought. "Great, you got a seat in the back, welcome aboard!" They are trying to avoid a confrontation with the F/A.... like it really matters... the CA is in charge, period. Ticks me off. But anyways, you'll be up front if there's room if you ever fly with me. 73

I was told this a few weeks ago, arrived at the ticket counter for a pass and was told I should have listed over the phone. Then when they checked to see if I was on their airline list, with CASS and all, on their Jetnet, USA Jet Airlines was not.

I had heard before because USA Jet is unable to reciprocate, but we are still CASS. Too bad. Kalitta is on there, though.

Yeah, but you're just a troublemaker... AND, you don't wear your hat! ;) TC

At American ALL employees have to pay a fee to ride up in First class. Also when you list for non rev the computer defaults to a Y (coach) listing.

So most FA's feel it's not fair for offline jumpseaters to travel in First for FREE, when ALL AA employees pay a fee to sit up there.

Gee, skybabe, last I checked, all other airline employees have to pay a fee for their First Class as well. But you don't see their F/As getting all pissy with offline jumpseaters... so why should you?

Last time I jumpseated on a USAir flight, the F/As gladly seated me in First with a smile. The least you could do is extend that courtesy here at AA, since we get the same courtesy on other airlines. By acting the way you do towards our offline jumpseaters, you really make AA a crappy travelling experience for them. Not that you probably care, anyway.
