Recently I posted a job on AEPS and Avianation job boards. While I much would have preferred to do searches without posting, I had trouble with the AEPS search and Avianation does not give you much search capability.

While we were able to cull some decent applicants from the large number of responses, I want to make the point that while it is easy for you to just hit the button and submit your information, that ease leads to some problems. These are the same people who complain on these boards all the time that the job boards do not work. Well:

1) The people hired will come from these two boards so people do get jobs from them.
2) If you sent a resume for a corporate job that said your objective was to fly for a 121 carrier, you will not be one of them.
3) If the job requires a type rating and you do not have one, why send the resume.
4) Do not make an obvious add on that says I want to fly a GV or your Challenger.
5) Look at what you are sending out, 95% were rejected just for being a mess. Spelling, Capitalization, missing info, etc.

If you want a job, make an effort.

If you don't mind me asking, would you provide a link to your job? I'm curious as to what you are posting that is generating such poorly written responses.

Thanks!

Oviedobob...it's AviaNation...so you got him there. It's at www.avianation.com/

But the only thing that bothered me was the usage of the word cull, in the same sentance as decent applicants. At the paper mill, we used to send cull back to the repulper.

While we were able to cull some decent applicants from the large number of responses...
Main Entry: cull
Function: noun
Date: 1809
: something rejected especially as being inferior or worthless

Sorry for being so NIFTY.

I apppreciate these comments. People often forget that applying for a job is part literacy test.

All the H.R. experts say that a major cause of applicant rejection is poorly-written materials. They usually sh!tcan those with misspellings, grammatical errors, etc. Do yourself a favor. If you're not one hundred percent confident in your proofreading abilities, have another person review your materials. And don't trust spellcheck on your word processor, either. I've had plenty of instances where spellcheck missed my typos.

Good luck with your job searches.

The banner at the top of the page at http://www.avianation.com/ has a photograph in the upper left hand corner that looks like a still from a porn movie...could anybody fill us in as to which one?

Example

The job was for a corporate pilot --southeast location.

Got one like this:

Job Objective--- Want position with regional sized 121 carrier or better. Or a corporate job in the southeast. "Right"

Others had just there total time on them--- sort of like I have 10,000 hours and should not have to tell you anything further like do I meet the requirements.

There were very few that even took the time to send a cover note let alone a cover letter.

On the other hand, two guys actually applied as a crew seeing there were two postions and each sent a note talking about the other.

Just posted all this to be helpful. It is too easy just to push that send summary email.

In summary, Publishers is correct about the trash and errors that some job seekers put on their resumes.

Occasionally I am somewhat involved in screenng resumes for a small regional. Some resumes are a mess. Spelling errors, wrong syntax, and mumble jumble in cover letters and resumes that didn't make sense; misalignments in paragraph idents, etc.

Job seekers need to put their best face on a resume/cover letter.
