Only the LGB Captains are on rsv for life. The f/os slowly but steadily move up as people upgrade. There are ultra senior f/os there, but not too many.

I too want FLL, I only live 3 hours away, unless they open up MCO then I will be right there, but anyways, after reading the contract that we had to sign, it did not mention what the Min days off are, is there a set min. amount of days off while on reserve? And how do they pair the days off, do you at least get a 4 or 5 day off block or can you make up your own off blocks? I am the type of person who would rather work 6-7 days then take 6-7 days off in a row, just wondering how it is done here?

They are required to give you 12 days off for a full month. They have a chart for calculating days off if it's a partial month.
You bid for your days off in Classbid, but I understand the reserves are done manually. You can bid for what you like, but good luck. I'm a senior reserve and only bid for a minimum number of commutes, which would be 3. This month, like my last reserve month, I was assigned 5 commutes. It is possible to move/drop days, but it's dependant upon reserve coverage.

I was hired in Oct and guys in my class are now getting FLL. If you get hired and start in Apr or May, you will have to wait longer because they slow down the hiring during the summer. Reserve is also hard to predict because of the slowdown in hiring during the summer. Senior reserve guys right now were hired last April, I should hold a line by June maybe even May. I heard this week that long/short call reserve is coming within a "few weeks" along with an aggressive pickup window so you can pick up open trips by yourself. That will make reserve life much better. I flica my days around and usually do three six day sets of reserve per month. I know other guys who have short commutes and they do lots of 3 and 4 day chunks. It is typically easy to move reserve days if the coverage is good. March coverage is horrible, but it will get better because they have like 50 guys doing IOE the next couple of weeks. Getting based in LGB will take some time and a line will probably be close to two years. They cannot grow LGB anymore due to slot restirctions. The only hope out west is to see LAX flying and have that be a co-base with LGB. Also lots of talk about a Bay Area base--possibly a co-base covering SFO, OAK, and SJC. If that happens, life at B6 will be much better.

I doubt it. Keep in mind the most you can be "on" is 6 days in a row. You could do 6 on, 6 off, 6 on, 6 off, 6 on one month, giving you the 2 groups of 6 days off (assuming you could hold those exact 12 days in your bid and/or swapping them) but then the following month you couldn't keep that same rotation without getting 18 days off for the month. Clear as mud?

Overall the flexibility for your days off is fairly good. Some people even like to bid 1 on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off, etc. because that way they fly a lot less and are home almost every night. Either way FLL reserves fly a lot less than JFK reserves. If you started or will start training soon, that will help you get FLL as most new hire positions coming up are for the Bus so you will get some people below you soon.

I think I understand, I have been flying frac most of the last 6 years and I got use to 7 on 7 off and enjoy that, I know that line holders have better days off and such, but while on reserve, a more realistic days off block could be two 5 day off blocks and a 2 day off block? That I can handle

Also, someone mentioned that a Long call/ Short call reserve system may be in the works? what would be the long call version?

We've been told that "Great changes are coming next month" for at least the last three years.
Now that we are inches away from union organization, perhaps a real change will come soon.
Congrats on the job! The MCO facility is nice. Interesting times ahead.

i am not on reserve at jb but once you hold the line and can do 3-4 day trips commutable i can assure you that you will quickly forget about 7 on 7 off..

I was former frac and hope i never have to go back to the old days. 4 days on followed by 3-5 days off is veery nice..

I find commuting is okay about 85% of the time.. The night before I come up with a plan for commuting
