I was told that on your BOS to SEA route that you have to fly a more Southern route than direct to keep the Direct TV in line with the Sat. I did not believe it but thought I would ask if this were true and if true does it affect other routes?

That doesn't sound right. I haven't done BOS-SEA specifically, but I have done plenty of OAK-JFK legs that take you through southern Canadian airspace to avoid ATC flow restrictions. LiveTV coverage wasn't an issue, and I've never heard of reroutes to accommodate TV coverage. That just doesn't make any sense, what with fuel costing what it does. It wouldn't make sense with cheap fuel, for that matter.

The only routes routinely affected by satellite coverage are some of the caribbean flights. JFK-SJU, STI, PSE, BQN, and EWR-SJU dont have tv coverage outside of an hour off the coast. JB offers free movies to these flights as a courtesy.

Not a stab at JB, but what ever happened to reading a book? Is TV such a potent attractant for JB? Is our society so absorbed by TV that it becomes a draw, and people will select a carrier because they can watch MTV live? I just find it weird. Give me a good novel anyday, and a long flight will zip by, so long as the guy next to me in the wife beater shirt doesn't hog the armrest.

I've been hauling passengers for 10 years, just recently for JetBlue. Its amazing how much of a difference the TVs make in the happiness of your average customer.

You now have a choice. Good news you CAN read a book if you want. Another benefit, the cabin is normally quiter because many pax are on the headphones and very few children running around the place bored out of their minds.
Only drawback I have found is the pax next to you with the headphone volume turned up on the inexpensive headsets ...
