I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a "typical" month schedule would be for a first year Jetblue pilot. My background is in corporate/fractional and I am not familiar with the types of schedules Jetblue has. Trying to decide IF I got the job how much I would miss my family - I would be commuting to work as the wife really doesn't want to move if at all possible. How many full days off (not spent in the crashpad or traveling to and from my base) might a new guy have?

If you're a fractional pilot you'd still be away from home more than you would be with any major airline even if you had to commute!
 
Most fractionals have week on week off skds. This includes positive space to and from work. This accounts for two commutes a month with 16 days off. So how do you figure any major has more time off, including commutes??? UAL 77/A320 pilots fly 20 days a month w/o duty rig. Please explain.
 
Once you're off reserve, you can count on around 15-17 awarded days off, depending on what you bid for.

You're going to have to commute home on a day off - front or back side of a trip, it's up to you. There are very few trips that are commuter friendly on both sides. Not that it doesn't happen...but right now it is rare.

As a commuter, I'd say you're looking at around 12-13 "full" days off per month, not counting the months you are able to take "paid time off" or vacation.

Hey I was a cor/charter pilot for 11 years. Just finished my first year at JB. As long as you don't ever bid for a max schedule you should get 14-18 days off a month. Then you have to try and get trips that are comutable on either end to help. This month I have 89 hours of flying and 18 days off. Not bad.

It's not the same kind of flying though. I'm starting a 4 day trip (ends at 9am on the 4th day) and it's only 4 legs in 4 days. So, no comparision to those 12 leg/15hour duty days. completed one year and I'm getting anywhere from 14-17 days off a month. with only 3-4 commutes a month. Usally 2 of the trips won't be commutable on one end or the other. But the other two can commute in and commute out. Not to bad, but no matter how you slice it......commuting SuCKS.

I guess 18 days off with pay, benefits, is just a bit better than 30-31 days off on unemployment. Good luck with the furlough. I feel for you. Been there, done that! :D
 
how about living in a blue city....a relatively affordable one, with plenty of overnights. bid overnights at home....plenty of guys live in FL and do that with relatively little seniority. then enjoy being home sleeping in your own bed 20 days a month...or more?
