I was wondering if anyone could tell me which of the three pilot bases a newhire at jetBlue might get.

Thank you.

The above two posts, although contradictory, are mostly true. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but there are a lot of variables. I have seen new hires be awarded FLL right from initial training. LGB (our other base at this time other than JFK & FLL) is a little tougher to get because of the semi-limited flying out of there due to the slot constraints. If you have been keeping up with the news, BOS will be our new "focus" city so that has great possibilites of becoming as big as our JFK operation over the next few years.

We have a plan for "virtual basing" in the works and it could come to be in the next few months or sooner, who knows. It's a great idea for our QOL and would save the company a chunk of coin at the same time. If you live in, or close to one of our bigger Blue Cities (MCO and BOS come to mind) you could find yourself starting/ending your trips from there even if there is no formal base there. Time will tell on that one but it has great potential.

Good luck

virtual basing.....

So, do you think that the Vbs will be limited to the more active blue cities? Specifically, do you think New Orleans has a chance, or no?

I believe VB will likely only affect those BlueCities with substantial service already in play, i.e. Boston, Oakland, Orlando maybe. (Caveat inserted due to insufficient info--I don't really know, other than BOS, where we're looking at VB) In other words, only those cities that have many flights into/out of will be candidates for the VB system.

Another variable will be the number of crewmembers living near that city--we have many flights up to Rochester, and there are quite a few pilots that live up there (Lord knows why...:) ) but I doubt that'll be a VB. Could be wrong, though!

As for your original question, you may be able to hold LGB and FLL within a few months of hire, but you'll be able to keep it only as an FO. Until we substantially grow those bases, I sincerely doubt a person hired today will be able to hold it as a Captain.

Hope this helps.
