Does anyone know the hire ratio (interview number to number hired) at JB? Any good advice on the interview process? And hiring forecast for 2004

Thanks in advance

We select around 50 of the 70 who interview to advance to Phase II (background checks). Only a handful don't make it through that wicket. Bottom line is probably 45/70 for about a 65% hire rate from interviews.

Excellent information. I interviewed in June of this year. 46 of the 70 in Phase 1 moved on to Phase 2, and all but 2 of the 46 were offered jobs. Numbers for the next interview group was almost identical (Skirt?). Previously this year it was running about 80% of Phase 1's eventually getting hired, but we are often told they'd easily hire all 70 if each does well in the interview and passes the background checks. There is no percentage quota.

As far as info on the process, best bet (and more timely) is to do a past search on this webboard or other interview boards. There is an abundance of detailed information out there.

Good luck!

DL :D

My buddies in JB told me that out of the 65-70 that interviewed with me in Oct, 44 made it to phase 2........hopefully we'll ALL get an early X-mas present in the form of a call from Dean in a few weeks!!

Are these ratio numbers still true in 2005? Any idea how many were hired per how many interviewed in March or April?

April Numbers

FWIW 47 of 66 moved on to Phase 2 in April.
The ratios seem to still be about the same. March percentages were about 75%.

Is there anything that JB is specifically looking for?

4-year degree (Engineering)
8-years aircraft engineer (Structural/mechanical, etc) for major.
5 years at regional.
5200 total, 2000 pic in CRJ.
No accidents/violations/dui's etc.

No call.

Anyone have any tips to try to get an interview other than start groveling at the front door?

6000tt seems to be the magic hr number for regional/civ guys. All your other #s are extremely competitive.

Good luck

ps I recommend updating often ie every couple weeks.

If only there were some rhyme or reason. 3 types (including the A320,) 2800 TPIC and over 6,000 TT. Clean record. Updating almost every week.

Why, God, why?

I might go to the MIA Job Fair and sucker over $200 to Kit although I've been told it makes no difference to JB folks whether you go that route or not.

Persistence, persistence, and more persistence! Update the app often, and if you know someone at JetBlue with whom you have previously flown, an LOR will help. Hang in there, and best of luck. JetBlue is a great place to be!

I have friends there, but they all have said that a LOR is not looked at until AFTER the interview. So...
I wait, I wait, and I wait

The saying here from the "People Dept" is that they screen based on qualifications and hire based on character. I believe I heard Dean Melonas say this directly.

Little, if anything is asked about your resume in the interview. It's mostly character type questions. Can you be a leader and will you go the extra mile on a consistant basis, etc?

The bottom line is they are figuring out:

1. If you are the type of person who would, after a long 16 hr duty day, stop and help if they saw a customer on the side of the road with a flat tire.

2. Or, do you just fly airplanes.

If after the interview they believe #1 is the correct answer, you'll proably get the nod if you have a clean background.

If #2 is more accurate, then expect a letter in the mail, thanking you for your time and interest. This actually keeps you from making a mistake, because if you just fly planes, you would not be happy here.

Your resume will eventually get you the interview. Outside of the Blue Dart program, few people can actually get you an interview unless they are at the top and want you here. (My opinion only)

Your character will get you the job. If you're on the fence and they are not sure what to do, then the internal recommendations kick in and help decide.

JetBlue has tried to create a situation where, if you get hired, you did it on your own.

Good Luck,

DW

Well put DW. No truer words have been spoken here about JB, at least in this forum anyway.

What are you guys updating on the JB app? All I see is blocks of time that can only be updated when you cross a certain threshold, like going over 4,000TT, or 6000TT. Am I missing something?

Ive been wondering the same thing. And does updating weekly really demonstrate anything other then the fact that you probably have alot of time on your hands? I have a hard time believing that someone in Jet Blue's hiring department actually takes into consideration the number of times a person updates thier flight time as an indicator of someone's "character" or eagerness to be part of the blue team.

You are updating your date of availability to something in the future, because if it is something in the past the software that selects you from the thousands of applications will overlook you.
