E190 SPECIAL MOD LINE ANNOUNCED

Since mid-February we have been sending our E190 aircraft to Embraer’s North American maintenance facility in Nashville to have a number of upgrades incorporated that, when completed, are expected to greatly improve the technical dispatch performance of the fleet. Over the next two months, more than 30 modifications will be embodied on each aircraft.

In order to support this modification program we will reduce the number of E190 operational spares from two to one aircraft, and this, combined with lower than acceptable technical dispatch performance on top of a 6-week delivery schedule delay has resulted in a number of operational disruptions. To help support our operation without unduly impacting our A320 fleet and crews, which are often called upon to fill in for E190s, we will contract up to four ExpressJet Embraer ERJ145 commuter jet aircraft (50-seat) to support up to two lines of E190 flying during this modification schedule.

We will contact Customers on those flights that will have the substitution in advance, and we will offer $25 Vouchers to compensate Customers for the reprotection on ExpressJet.

Who cares if its only for a couple of months? I do. That could of been my flying if we hadnt sold A320's. This will cost a pretty penny. So much for the D & D worrying about protecting the brand. We need a union now with scope!!!

It's for a couple months, gents, let's not get too worked up...

Are you managment? This is your flying, less pilots, slower to upgrade....what happens when you (managment) finds out you can contract out cheaper? This is how it all begins. Stay away from the blue kool-aid and remember that you are not managment and only a cost unit. They will do it cheaper if possible, get rid of you, and say "no hard feelings - it's only business..." Best of luck to all of you!

JetBlue 190 pilots displaced by the 145 flying are being pay protected. It's only two months.

Nope, not management, and I've never taken a sip of the stuff. This is for a couple of months while mods get done to our 190's. In three months, we won't even be talking about XJ...

What percentage of flying under the Delta brand do Delta pilots actually do? 50%?

JetBlue pilots do 100%. (with 4 aircraft flow by xjet for 2 months to fix 190 problems).

What kind of protections do you have while you have ATA and others doing sub service for you? I don't see them doing sub service for other airlines during irops.....Then again, I don't see other airlines trapping people in airplanes for 11 hours at a shot 10 feet from the gate, or cancelling flights 5 days after a storm hits!;)

[FONT=arial, helvetica]High School Students Stuck On Airplane For Ten Hours
[FONT=geneva,arial,sans-serif]February 15, 2007

Looking at the snowfall totals, this week’s winter storm did not amount to much. But when it comes to inconvenience, it was way up there. Just ask the thousands of people trapped at area airports -- some of them stuck on planes for hours Wednesday. NY1's Roger Clark filed the following report.

Some Benjamin H. Cardozo High School Students were smiling in the icy cold Thursday morning outside the Delta Terminal at JFK Airport, glad to be off of the plane they say they were stuck on since Wednesday evening.

"Our plane was scheduled to leave at around 5:30 p.m., and after we got on the plane it just took really long,” said Cardozo High School student David Pierre. “We were there, nine to ten hours."

Pierre and 80 classmates were bound for Greece on Delta Airlines on a school trip. They never got off of the tarmac because of Wednesday's ice storm. Their flight was finally cancelled at around 1:30 a.m., and they were taxied back to the terminal around 3 a.m.

"[I’m feeling] disgusting, tired,” said student Morgan Sapolsky. “We don't even want to go anymore. [The delay] took all the excitement out of it.”

To add insult to injury, a separate group of their classmates flying another airline did take off for Greece at 1:30 a.m.

Parents picking up their kids at the airport were not happy.

"I think it's terrible because they knew they had 88 kids on that plane and they shouldn't have boarded them or they should have brought them back when they realized they were not going to leave,” said Susan Haynal, a parent of one of the students.

10 hours on an internatioal flight airplane.....OMFG, the flight to Greece is 11 hours alone! What would they have done had the flight gotten airborne with the standard 2 hour JFK taxi?!

Settle down Beavis..

You're pay protected...

Last time I checked, no union has solved any airline's plethora of problems.

Yea... You're SO RIGHT.
All the other airlines CANCEL everyone's flights and make their customers rebook.

We get people to where they want to go and if it means the rare charter or occasional delay, they are happy to get there.
And if we inconvenience them, we give them credit vouchers, REFUNDS and cash payments.
And we only trapped 9 airplanes in 7 years; it was an ICE storm and our CEO didn't hide under his desk.

Care to try again?

Maybe not but the unions are trying to keep "our" flying ours. Jetblue not being union are not helping to prevent cabatage or other political matters affecting our pilot group. When was the last time the union at Jetblue proposed any safety issues to the FAA like fatigue? Oh I almost forgot they have no union are trying to increase our flight limitations. You do not operate in a bubble so it would be nice with a pilot group of your size chip in and help us buy some politicians!

I have 15 years ALPA membership (as many of our pilots do) and my exposure is at the regional, major freight and major passenger carriers. Please don't underestimate the "experience" level here at JetBlue.
Your concerns are very real/valid and personally, one of my major concerns is in fact Cabotage and the universalization/harmonization of our certificates ... (making a foreign ATP certificate interchangeable with a US ATP and vice versa.)

In regard to your first sentence of your reply, I believe ALPA blew it allowing the whole brand scope thing many, many years ago. But this is a free market and a Union only has so much control over the market. Short of a national seniority list ( a pipe dream ) and some sort of national pay rate tied to equipment (with maybe a type of pattern bargaining like the auto workers have) there is in fact NO easy solution.

In regard to your fatigue comment, you don't have all the FACTs my friend.
There was a push to do some scientific research in to the fatigue induced by our schedules. There may be some real world improvements that could be done. Their intent was not to just do a transcon turn. But to educate and do some real research with a former NASA fatigue researcher. Once again, the issues turned in to something else and it quickly snowballed and got a LOT of bad press.

Do you really think an 8 hour domestic flight time day and a 16 hour extended duty day with 8 hours rest is SAFE? We have had this abysmal regulation since the 50s/60s. ALPA has had no solution. But ALPA has done a LOT of good.

Otherwise...
We may go ALPA over here.. I believe we will all have a better idea in a VERY short time.

There is going to be an additional compensation increase in the next 4-6 weeks here at JETBLUE.

There are a LOT of good things here that people do dismiss and forget quickly.

We shall see.

What does it say when the only tool your pilot group has at its disposal to get the comensation dollars that were there all along is a mass exodus?

There are a LOT of good things here that people do dismiss and forget quickly.

Money talks. Bull$hit walks.

Wow. Will the Expressjet E145s have LiveTV?

Bye Bye--General Lee
