Not all LCC's expect the flight crews to do that stuff.

AirTran doesn't require pilots to do anything other than normal preflight duties.

I will do things that make sense, though, like go grab a stroller for a pax so they can make a connection or push a pax in a wheelchair up the jetway. . . but when I do it, I do it to help the pax, because it seems like the right thing to do.

yeah...the scary thing is that all of us flying for majors now are looking at jetBlue hoping that they feel some of the pain we are! i think the saying is..."misery loves company?" anyway, i know a couple of bubbas here at the big D who are wondering if it is not a GREAT idea to bail before there is huge flood on the market of beat up major pilots out there. if they weren't married with kids it would be a no brainer! my neighbor is a jetBlue dude and he said they they will be doubling in size by the next two years or so........150 a/c and then 400 plus by the end of the decade! all of us major dudes will still be pensionless, pennyless (more paycuts coming) and more important familyless as the stress of a uncertain industry continues to put life plans on hold.

so...we can sit here and anonymously bash jetBlue but lets be honest...ok..i will admit...I AM JEALOUS! I would take a paycut to preserve QOL and job security all day long!! it is just a hard sell to the family and kids.

BTW...that frontier guy...his attitude about helping pitch in to help clean the cabin is the epitome of the "spoiled, arrogant, cocky airline pilot" that has given us such a bad name in the media, the public, and amongst ourselves! we wonder why we don't have any sympathy from our neighbors, relatives and acquantainces???? it is because of bubbas like this. i think we are slowly dying the same death as the dinosaur...unable to adapt to a dynamic environment. if we continue to hope for fuel to go down and jetBlue to go away...it will not be long before jetBlue has another 40,000 applicants from all of the defunct airlines....yes frontier man...your airline too!

We all can learn a lot from innovative airlines that redefine the pax experience and work together as a family to run a good business. delta used to be the big "family" but management over the years has done a superb job of attempting to bust the pilot union and ostracize employee groups. great job guys...now jump off into your fancy management life boats while we employees sink with this ship!

Funny you're mentioning this. I jumpseated a couple of days ago, and right when I am ready to walk out of the plane, the Delta Captain, 767-300ER, asks me if my company is hiring and mentions he d give me his job if he can have mine...

Many of us JB people were at other majors prior to JB and have very clear memories of how things were and are over there. To once again love to go to work as much as you love to be off is really something special. I never thought I would have that feeling ever again.
I had 15 years at one troubled major and to start over at 40 is a frightening thought but we all must make our choices and live by them.
So far, I chose well this time, time will tell.
This is one crazy business where we all treat each other with such disrespect. It doesn't have to be that way. A good start to the change will be when we all become accountable for our own and company decisions and actions and their final outcomes. Always blaming the other guy for your problems no longer works and just prolongs the inevitable.

I always thought that the US Air guys were lucky in that they got furloughed before anyone else. All of the US Air furloughees in my squadron got picked up early on by JetBlue, SWA, and Fedex before the market was flooded with all the other furloughed pilots. A couple of them are already Captains at JetBlue.
