JetBlue not seeking ATA gates

JetBlue Airways Corp. refuted news service reports today that it intends to bid on ATA Airlines Inc.'s Chicago Midway hub.

The first offer for the 14 Midway gates came in Tuesday when ATA reached a definitive sale agreement for the gates with Orlando-based AirTrans Airways for $89.95 million. The proposed deal would include the Chicago operation, two gates at New York LaGuardia and one at Reagan Washington.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines is also mulling a bid on the gates and Temp, Ariz.-based America West Airlines is considering buying all of ATA.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Basil Lorch III is scheduled Thursday to consider setting a deadline later in the autumn for receiving bids on the sale of part or all of ATA in his Indianapolis courtroom. The court is expected to eventually accept a bid that offers the highest payment to creditors.

Indianapolis-based ATA, the nation's No. 10 airline, has lost $120.9 million this year through September due to fare wars, falling ticket prices and rising fuel costs. Parent company ATA Holdings Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Oct. 26, listing assets of $745.1 million and liabilities of $940.1 million.

ATA's fledgling reorganization calls for spinning off leases on 49 Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 airliners, and using cash from the gate sell to obtain regional jets for use on Indianapolis routes.

Well, so much for another one of LowIQer's theories again. Guess all this MDW asset pumping (no not with your hand LowIQer, don't get excited) for his beloved ERJ isn't going to happen.

One airline has 415 planes, the other has 60. Try to keep it in perspective lowecur. 2,900 departures a day, and soon to be the largest domestic carrier in the US, I wouldn't toss all your dividend checks in one basket. I don't! Yea, I could have been an Insurance Salesman, but then I decided to graduate High School. We don't hire rainbow people. Being lite in your loafers has many advantages when one of your FA's doesn't show up for a flight.

Actually, the only clarification that was made was that they would not take part in the charade between ATA and the other fools that will soon find out that this purported bidding process means nothing without the city of Chicago signing off on it. I think this was specifically pointed out by ol lowecur this morning.:) This will all be clarified before December 23, when the closing is supposed to take place. You really believe the city of Chicago is just going to hand over 14 gates to AirTran, when they have a chance to get Jetblue in Chicago in a few months? No folks, these gates will all be discretionary until Jetblue gets up to speed. And anyone who believes these gates will sit empty without a long term contract has overdosed on xanax. Where there are empty gates in Chicago, you will always find takers....even for the short term of a few years.

Hello, Boing.:D :D ;)

You're right, and I still don't.

Now here's one for you Metro. Did you know that the new $90M contract to AAI does not include the gates or slots in LGA or Washington National? Gee, I wonder where they are going? Isn't it funny that Neelebarger made his announcement after this new deal? Could it be that Jetblue will buy those? And yes, they can be purchased, not like the gates at MDW.;) ;)

Apparently you overlooked this:

I, for one, would love to see that LCC White Knight, the savior of the service industry, lowecur's holy grail, JetBlue get their asses handed to them at MDW at the hands of Southwest with the E190s that they don't even have yet.
Nice comment regarding JetBlue. Why do you make such supportive public statements such as the one above about a group of people trying to earn a living?

Sun, here's a lesson about military flying. Keep your mouth shut until you've earned the right to open it. Looking at your background, ANG Hopeful, you are a long way from even entering the conversation. Statements such as the one above just make you look/sound like an idiot. Go back and play with your Pipers and Cessnas, leave real flying to professionals.

Hmmm.

If anyone has seen "Saving Private Ryan" you might remember the scene where the Rangers are picking through the dog tags of the dead Airborne guys. They rather loudly read the names of the unfortunate s.o.b's like they are at a poker game, while unaware that live Airborne troopers are watching their actions.

Yeah, I know it "sucks to be me" and if I don't like what's on the board, I should go get a life and not read it. Really, the previous posts don't bother me. Some of you guys have informed opinions, but I just want to ask Lowcur if he even flies airplanes for a living.

wait a second...

Thanks for the heads up.

I have no problem with Jetblue crews, and I think if you did a search you would see that. I have friends working for Jetblue, and I don't wish them or anybody else in this industry any ill will. That being said, I have a big problem with lowecur spilling forth propaganda on this board about his precious Embraer 170/190 series and talking about how they are going to beat SWA at their own game, at their largest base of operations. All he ever does is put forth the same regurgitated material that every other analyst puts out regarding Jetblue's performance and growth potential. You guys offer a good product, and you have been successful. I am happy for that. However, anybody thinking Jetblue is going to run SWA out of what is paramount to "their" airport, with an unproven airplane at that, is foolish at best. It doesn't take a major airline pilot or aviation analyst to realize that.

My comment was based towards lowecur alone, not you or any other JBU pilot. Read it again, within the context of the rest of my post, and you should see this. If you wanna hold that comment against me personally in my attempt to join an ANG unit, well thats your perrogative.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I feel sorry for the ATA guys and gals, as I have spoken with many recent hires during the sim portion of their interview. I sincerely hope everything works out in the end.

I am not a religious guy but "Amen" to that. I think what bugs me about numbnuts LowerIQ is that it is the same B.S. day after day. He post a press release then adds his idiotic prophecy to it. Then he is proven wrong. But, instead of him retreating to Insuranceman .com he starts a new thread the next day.
Ahhh instead of that EMB fanatic wasting more of my time i am off to something more interesting - flashyourrack.com

"serenity now"

Details will come out, and I don't believe they will include those gates.

I don't think MDW is their largest base of operations in terms of flights. In case you haven't noticed, this board fills out 75% of it's threads with propaganda from everyone's perspectives. It's called discussion, and I do it more civil than most.:)

Nice statement  Now he just thinks you're another "F" teen dumba$$.

Why don't we all just start speculating about an industry we know nothing about, like the insurance industry. We can discuss the scandal with broker's commissions, and AIG etc.

On the the other hand, how FREAKIN BORNIG would talking about insurance be? Can you blame a pilot / airline manager wanna be? To borrow from the younger generation's venacular: POSER!

I think his Avatar sums it up. Is that some part of a farm/ "deliverance" style fantasy of his?

I have no desire to fly planes or manage an airline, I'm just a prognosticator....and a good one. ;) To borrow from the younger generation's venacular: POSER! Yes, only with my clothes on.
