JetBlue junior E-190 Capt?

Can someone at JetBlue tell me how long the most junior Capt on the E190 and the A320 have been at JetBlue? Thanks

The people going to E-190 captain this month are around 16 months. The junior bus captain slots were going around 2.5 years. Anyone getting hired today is going to look at a lot longer time to get 320 CA.

Exactly what he said. I am going to E190 class in 2 weeks and I have been here 17 months (1yr 5 months). I could hold 320 CA maybe this time next year but would be on reserve for 12-18 months. Of the 140 original guys that bid the 190 I am in the mid 120's. The E190 fo's should see upgrade classes on the 190 in September.

I have been offered an E190 opening in August...whats your best guess of an upgrade time today for a new hire on the E190? Is there a large number of A320 FOs who are waiting for their seatlock to expire so they can move over to the left seat of the E190?

Once the original 140 are finished with upgrade, then all the 'newer' hires that started last fall/winter will upgrade. Estimate: 12 months for those bubbas, a tad shy of the ten month estimate given by jb at the onset of hiring into the 190.

As for the 320, I am thinking 3-4 years for new hires. If growth picks up again, could be shorter.

Nobody knows for sure. Just take your chances and give it a try. Upgrade will be much faster on the 190 though.

What are the general flying impressions of the E190? I've heard positives and negatives. I've had E170 pilots tell me the flight deck seats were designed for 2 hour flights but that it flies really nice.

I just finished upgrade on the 'bus at 2 years and 1 month. Keep in mind though that I bid for first available, and was awarded the slot before that announcement about slowing the training on the 320. There are still a number of people senior to me waiting for the 320 upgrade and I expect to be on reserve about 2 years or so. Hope this helps. A couple in BOS are junior to me by a few numbers, and probably are right at the 2 year point.

So the 190 FO's will see about a 12-14 month upgrade from when they were hired. When the fence comes down it will be interesting to see what happens. If the 320 FO's are looking at 3.5 to 4 year upgrades, I'll bet you'll see lots of 320 FO's go to the 190. I don't completely understand the whole fence issue, but hopefully 190 upgrades will be around the 12-18 month mark for newhires.

The bad stuff first:
1. seats are terrible, typical brazilian custom from my experience. However, the word from 190 dept. is that a mod is coming very soon (Aug.?)
2. the outlet for the fo's computer doesn't work very often, but I just figured out that the captain's side can hold the current better.
3. the cockpit it's small, but it is bigger than my previous A/C - so I don't complain.

The good:
1. Airplane flies well. Not as computerized as the bus (good thing IMO).
2. HUDs rock. Makes everything very easy.
3. Very low workload. Five legs are not as bad as one would think.
4. Customers have a lot of room.
5. Weight is never an issue.

Technically there is no seat lock, only an equipment lock. So once the two year fence comes down in Oct 07, it's a free for all based on seniority. So an A320 FO who has been in the right seat of the bus for less than two years can bid captain on the 190 because you can't be denied an upgrade if your seniority can hold it, even if you've only been on the bus for less than two years.

There would be none other than possible shorter reserve time now. I thought it was an equipment lock and that a 320 FO could not bid the 190 CA slots until their two years of 320 time was up. Since I don't work there however, I'm not one to listen to on this issue.

My understanding is you are equipement locked for 2 years, so if you start on the 190 your there for a least two years. If your time comes to upgrade within two years on the 190 then you can indeed upgrade. But, hypothetically, if you where able to hold 320 within the first two years, you would have to wait until your 2 year 190 aircraft lock ran out. Is that correct??? Or have I missed the vessel completely??:0

Everyone has a 2 year aircraft lock regardless of the fence. A newhire A320 FO can't bid E-190 CA for two years from hire date. The fence is only for the folks on property before the E-190 initial bid.

fly auburn how is the comute.

The commute hasn't been bad. I know one guy that has a couple of bad stories. I guess I've been lucky. Things like spring break and holidays make it tough, but that's everywhere IMO. Sometimes I get "smart" comments from the pilots I jumpseat on, but one has to ignore the ignorants, right? And that's been very rare. Air Tran just getting CASS will help tremendously, especially since I'm going up to BOS this fall. Right now I usually go up to JFK and leave LGA as a backup. We do have our "commuter clause" and if I don't make it after 2 flights - oh well. I'm not going to spend my time at home stressing and leaving a bunch of hours earlier just to get to NY and sit there before my trip. It may be foolish, but it's worked so far.
