Go back to the bottom of a unknown seniority list?
Hello PHL E190....Most Airways guys are happy here at
JB.

Does Jetblue really not offer paid vacation? Even at my cr@ppy charter job we have paid vacation time.

It's complicated. Most of the current issue with vacation doesn't revolve around vacation rules, but allocation and accrual rates. There are plenty of pilots who have vacation time available but allocation is so stingy that they can't use it when the kids are out of school. (They can take the whole month of September off though). There are plenty of others who don't have enough time available because they used it as sick time, which is an accrual problem. (Don't go on medical leave in the same year you want to take a vacation week.) Both are unsat.

Bottom line is that JetBlue is behind our peers in every area of compensation (pay rates, medical, retirement, vacation, etc). The ONLY way this will change is if this pilot group takes matters into our own hands and unionize ASAP. So to anyone coming on the property.......welcome. We need your help to make this a destination airline. Put your emotions aside and make a business decision using logic. Numbers don't lie. Go to bluetruthpilots.com and educate yourselves. Without a CBA we will NEVER be a destination airline for pilots. Pilots here are leaving for other major airlines. Are pilots at other major airlines leaving for JetBlue? What's wrong with this picture? We can change for the better if we stand up for ourselves. The only way to accomplish this is through unionization. It's business......nothing more.

We have a PTO based system. If a slot is available, you can sign up for it and it will charge you 25 hours of PTO and pay you 35 hours of credit. For someone like myself who has no kids its not a bad system, I take the month of september off yearly for 50 hours of PTO. The problem with our system is A) we only get less then 10 hours a month of PTO, B) there are limited amounts of summer and holiday vacation slots (read very little), and C) we don't have rounds of vaca bidding, so the number 1 guy on the seniority list can bid for 4 weeks of summer, christmas and thanksgiving, and recieve them all. Most airlines have rounds of bidding which forces the senior folks to choose between a holiday or the summer, (they can hold holidays off anyways, they are the most senior) here at jetblue they can have thier cake and eat it too. This locks out these vacation periods to all but the most senior bidders (read top 10%) and prevents mid seniority folks from having vacation with thier family when their family is not working. An easy solution is to increase PTO deposits, implement round bidding, and increase the vacation slots during at least the summer travel season... so far Jetblue has resisted these changes.

Another problem with the PTO system is one must choose sometimes between being sick and taking vacation. This should be read as, most sick people show up to work so they can still go on vacation. This preturbs N757ST because then he becomes sick and is forced to use HIS pto.

The problem with Jetblue vaction scam is:

Allocation
Distribution
Bidding

For instance, JFK A320 CA.

Allocation
Jetblue allocated about 800 slots
PSIA is near 1600.

Distribution
Jetblue distributed about 35 slots per month in June, July, Aug.
A peer would distribute about 150 per month in June, July, Aug.

Bidding
Jetblue 1 pass
Peer 4-6 passses.

To those duma$$ that said 'gee another pilot complaining about not being senior enough to hold summer vacation'. Well dumbnuts the bottom 95% is what we are talking about not the bottom 25%.

So STFU!!!

Our COO said attrition is due to the people we hire. Guess he wants to disqualify people with experience from the hiring process, after all, they are qualified to go elsewhere.

who knows what any of the airlines are looking for?

In 98' I was in class at AirTran with pilots on their 5th or 6th airline. They had been working for 2nd and 3rd tier airlines after furloughs and shutdowns did away with their first choices. I was convinced that I would never fall victim to their fate. I was too young, too smart, and I was winning.

I was wrong. We make the best choices we can with the information we have at the time and we hope that they work out.

This profession is a heck of a ride isn't it?
