Just saw a commercial on CBS that the CEO of JB is going to be on Letterman's Late Night show . . .

Last night they said they were going to have him, and when Dave introduced him....there was no one there. Dave then stated he was stuck in Buffalo. Hillarious.

At least he had the "Balls" to show up on national TV and explain himself. I don't think we will see my legacy leader on anything similar.
 
Neeleman couldn't really answer any of Letterman's questions. He avoided the same question three times.

Just watched the interview

He seemed genuinely nervous in his responses. Tough position to be in, but props for going on the program at all.
 
Letterman destroyed him...brutal...

"For the third time...why did JetBlue have these problems while other airlines seemed not to have these same issues."

best interview of an exec I've seen in years. no softball questions and pounced on his inconsistencies. Letterman's stock went waaaay up in my estimation, and I've always thought he was a demi-god. It may not have been such a good idea to appear on that show as previously thought.

Letterman really did slam him, and even Barbara Walters helped just before that with the "high five". Dave just kept talking about Jetblue, and Barbara asked "Dave, why don't you bring him out here right now and interview him?" To which Dave replied, "No, it is time for him to wait.." Then they high fived. Hillarious. Then Conan slammed him with a Jetblue pilot (an actor) in the audience arguing with him (Conan). When Conan asked him to leave, he slowly left, saying he would leave now, but then waited a while. He barely moved, sitting on the steps. Finally, another actor, a Southwest pilot, got up on the other side and said he would leave, and he did promptly. Funny.

I think you are right with everything you just said, but I think Neeleman did better than it looks like at first glance. Most people know Letterman is entertainment and is the gold standard no doubt, but I also believe those same people will have a lot of empathy for Neeleman. Heck, I did.

Not only that, but just the fact that he came out to take the heat like a man goes a long way with a lot of folks. Even if he did explain it better the public wouldn't know what he was talking about anyway, all they want to know is that it is fixed. All things considered I think Neeleman ok after all.
 
i thought he faltered for a person who has the title of CEO. granted...no other CEO is gonna go on a late night show and try to explain things.

i think he was exhausted and really didn't have any business going on late night TV to try and heal some wounds.

i didn't feel sorry for him. he should've come prepared and equipped for the harsh media spotlight - the same media that has built JetBlue up so much.

surely they will learn and benefit from this debacle at JetBlue

Notice I didn't say that he didn't have balls, which he does...he just was way over his element and Letterman nailed him pretty hard.

Will his appearance on the show change the tone or frequency of the barbs jetBlue will endure from all of this?

Well we can thank JB for the Bill of Passenger Rights...phew.... a free ticket anywhere they fly if delayed 6 hours or more...my that is so generous of you...$40.00 for a delay of 2 hours...hmmm almost as much as they pay their pilots. I actually think its a great thing that the govenrment will come up with a bill of rights...far better than what JB is offering. They did it to themselves. The airlines are so fun to watch. I can't stand the idea of Virgin America..but maybe they have they will get it right.

Anytime you get the government involved, it comes out well....not good.

I really wonder what would happen if the industry would "reregulate" itself. I don't think if would be all that good. Days of "Catch me if you can" <blah> won't magically reappear.

ATC is government-controlled right? (mostly) seems like the ATC'ers are having a bad go at it right now.

No but it's that self-deprecating style of leadership that will prove down-to-earth to those unfamiliar with the airline industry. Besides, everything now is just a marketing ploy. Tons of free press out of this. Guess what, other flights have screwed up too -- media digging those up. Bill of Rights: check out the disclaimers and oh by the way, we've already been doing that. One page apologies, tons of free sheet: it's like hanging out with the oompa-loompas at the company bar. Another guess what, we just spent our marketing budget for the year. Our name is now everywhere and somehow we look like we freakin' invented the pax bill of rights. Airlines continue to hate us. One week later: status quo and I should have believed you.

The Neelman Technique as explained in Swingers:

"Oh, Mike, do you even think I know what the hell they are saying to me half the time? I don't know if the're talking about how hard it is to be adopted, or how their dad can't show them affection. All I do man, is stare at their mouth and wrinkle my eyebrows and somehow I turn out to be a big sweetie."

In my opinion The JBLU passenger bill of rights falls short. The reason, they still will not endorse your ticket to a canceled JBLU flight over to another airline. After the Feb 14 storm many pax who flew in to NY were given refunds on a $156 (big deal) ticket only to have to go buy a one way ticket on the competition for $700. Looks to me like JBLU still wants to hold you captive.

Well, there are a couple of points to take away here.

#1 We don't "FIM" pax over to other airlines because when you buy a ticket on Jetblue it's "money up front" so to speak. We don't over sell flights and when you buy a ticket you really do get that seat. What a novel idea if you ask me. Now, you can change the reservation for a nominal fee, but the seat is yours to lose.
#2 The refunds you talk about ($156) where what they paid for the ticket? As far as having to buy a ticket on another carrier for $700, Well they are legally getting raped. Take a look at our "Walk up Fares" we don't stick it to someone when we certainly could.

So, tell me how JetBlue wants to hold you captive?
 
Hey News just in, Mr COE of the year Gerald Grinstein is going to be on national TV to explain how he is sorry for letting everyone down for lining his pockets at the expense of labor and what he is going to do to put things right to win back the trust of those he swindled! oh wait he has no balls they are hanging from the back of the F150 I am stuck behind in traffic. ;)
My hat is off to DN to stand behind the courage of his convictions.

That's "true"...just as saying Jeffrey Dahmer was a people person is also "true". Only from the narrowest of perspectives. If he went there to be accountable, then he chose the wrong venue. Letterman ain't news...it's entertainment.

Airline CEO's should be on Letterman only when they are brought out on a leash tethered by Jack Hanna.

Well, no. I was very specific with my nouns. I said "Airline" and "CEO". A former President of the United States is not an "airline CEO".

Nouns are words we use to identify people, places, or things. If I mean a four-legged domestic feline. I type "c-a-t". That means I'm not referring to a four-legged domestic canine...which would be a "dog".

I select my nouns based on the topic and their applicability to the topic.

(lemme know if I'm going to fast for you...)

So you see, "former Presidents of the United States" doesn't fit into the same category as "airline CEO's".

Dismissed.
 
Yeah, whatever. I guess I don't hold airline CEOs in high regard.

Occam, a bunch of words is no more a sentence than a pile of bricks is a house.
