but a 12 year Captain flying a very advanced 100 seater----only $89 an hour? Come on man! Someday I hope you get that raised somehow....

General...you are a smart dude with lots of industry experience. you of al people are in a position that you can teach some of the youngsters here about how the industry works.
do you really think the pay will be $89/hour 12 years from now? the only pay rates on the 190 that will be applicable are the 1-3 year capt rates...after that you will be pulling 140K plus in the airbus. IF the emb is as profitable as advertised....and oil goes below $50...add another 14K to your profit sharing account in the 401K....DB plans are gone....for good in my opinion! although i would love to have that 14K in cash....it will come in handy when you retire with no social security or pension.
THAT is why there are over 10,000 qualified apps on file! is it the best? NO WAY! is this the absolute WORST time in history for airlines???? ummmm....yeah! if someone wants the big bucks...here is a recipe:
1. do not become an airline pilot!
2. if 1 is not an option....fly @ FedEx or UPS/DHL only
3. if 1 and 2 are not an option...try SWA
4. if 1,2,3 are not an option....have patience and HOPE that the legacies will turn the corner. plan on at least 8-10 years for a recovery and pay to be re instated....if ever? i hope you are YOUNG!!!!
5. MARRY RICH!!!!!
6. if it flies, floats or f#$%....rent it!
7. dont get a divorce....mistress if you need one!
but really, all pilots should be flying for fun...not the money...and have a second source of income to provide for the family. flying money should be vacation money....seems impossible, but ask any furloughed legacy pilot and i bet they have this figured out to the tee! i know many furloughed pilots who are financially independent of their flying jobs....and THAT is what we should be talking about on these forums....sharing ideas of other income producers.
we will never get rich working for someone else....that is what we do as pilots. if money is what we want (juding from 90% of the BS on this forum...it is...) then you must work for yourself. rich dad poor dad should be required reading for anyone thinking they are gonna make it rich as a pilot!
