MYFOXNY.COM - A portion of the cover of an engine on a Jet Blue plane that was in the air appears to have fallen off at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Runway 22 Right was shut down at around 6 a.m.
A cowling or engine cover lay on the tarmac. The plane appeared to be missing a portion of the cover.
A spokesperson for the Port Authority tells Fox 5 News that Flight 507 bound for Ft. Lauderdale, Flordia had taken off, but returned moments later.
There are no reports of injuries.
SkyFoxHD was over Newark Liberty as several emergency vehicles trailed the plane. A conversation over the air traffic control radio transmission system between a pilot and the control tower mentioned a debris fall.
Passengers were transfered safely to another flight.

These guys are going to wish they voted on ALPA now! Oh man, they're going to burn!!!!

Doh. I think just about every A320 operator has done it once. To see those latches you almost have to go arse over tea-kettle.

Seems more like a line maintenance issue than a pilot issue. ...or are you Blue guys checking the dipstick on an extension ladder every leg?

Hopefully this is a case of metal fatigue or incorrect paint markings on the latches.

Gup

This is like our third one in as many months. They hung the fo on the last one.

Why/How did they hang the F/O?

I check all the latches are secure. If something falls off, not my fault. I am sure most guys do the same.
