Just to clarify, to apply you need the 1,000hrs in A/C 20,000# or greater. They have a section that gives you the competitive hours, which indicates people being selected for interview have greater than 2,000hrs in A/C 20,000# or greater.

For what it's worth, most of the people in the current class have 4+ years at a major and are now furloughed. Some have significantly more than 4 years in a 20K jet, so it stands to reason that this class has an average of WAY more than 2000 hours of 20K jet. Everyone in the class is former major airline, except one commuter (many were military before they were at the majors, fighters, transports, marines, coast guard and even an army helicopter guy...all with 121 time on top of military time), the qualifications are mind-boggling. Many found flying jobs while on furlough to keep the resume growing.

Ditto at AirTran. It's tough out there. I am trying to get a 7700TT former TWAMR guy an interview right now, and he is considered "average".

The thing that is different this time (as opposed to the last downturn in 1991-1995) is that there are still entry-level jobs. In 1991, some places were requiring 2500TT to fly cancelled checks in a piston airplane.

I guess it is because of the shift to the regionals of many mainline flights, causing more hiring from the bottom up.

Bravo,

I can't speak for everyone, but I have no civilian experience other than 45 hours to get my private license and 4 hours to get my ATP. I fly in the Air Force, have about 1400 hours > 20000#s and 2200 hours total....so don't get discouraged by the big numbers you think you may need, because you don't necessarily...(btw, I have an interview with JB next Tues.....) Good luck to you and keep plugging away!!

There are exceptions...

Mr. Shebib a few threads over has an interview next week and he only has around 2200 military hours so one's mileage may vary...

slight correction....my total hrs with the military conversion is closer to 2800, not 2200...the 1400 in a/c > 20000# includes the conversion

Keep in mind that JetBlue is known for sending invites to a wide variety of pilots from military, corporate, commuter, major, etc. It just so happened that my new-hire class happened by coincidence to be mostly furloughed major airline guys. The next class would likely be totally different. Our class has AWA, TWA/AA, UsAir, Spirit, UAL, NWA and Delta furloughed pilots.

Do not give up, keep the faith. You have to enter the lottery of life to win. This place rocks, and it is worth the wait.

Thanks for all the insights. Pretty much figured it is a very competitive market. It is interesting how they put classes together with all the pilots looking for work.

Thanks again.

It appears the key is Jet PIC time, of which I have none and so my 14,000 hours TT and 10,000 heavy jet time all in the right seat still evidently count for naught 1 1/2 years after applying.

yea you don't know how to fly a plane! you are definitaly not qualified! :(

I thought that's all the FO did was do all the flying, make great landings, and let the captain take the glory for it after the flight.

Do I detect a touch of bitterness? Just an observation. If that is how you really feel, I am sorry you feel that way.

What's up?

I was just being a smarta$$. :D I wish I could complain about life as an FO... that would indicate that I had actually moved UP on the food chain. As it stands now, I count myself lucky on the days I refer to myself as "Captain" in my rented C172 heavy (heavy meaning me plus one more person).

Oh, ok. Sorry, I guess I just didn't see the humor.

Good Luck

Stodgy old cruster.

Somebody called 320 not only stodgy, but an old cruster? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Man, if it's that hard to pick-up on people's actual personalities on the internet, I'd hate to see what is thought of some of the other people that regularly post on this forum that I know personally.

Respectfully,

JayDub
