Question regarding schedules at Jblue. Is there some sort of preferential bidding system? Do you bid lines each month, or is it something better? How long would a new hire be on reserve? Thanks!

Hi,

We do have preferential bidding using Class Bid. I got hired in Mar and my class should be on reserve only a few months. Coming this fall when the schedules slow down a bit, you can expect the time on reserve to go up a little.

Have a great day !

I started my training in Feb, finished my IOE by Mid Apr, am on reserve for the month of May, and I've got a line for Jun. There is a guy a couple of classes behind me who finished his IOE a week ago and has a line next month......should be like this through the summer since classes are 28/month for the next few months....will slow down fall/winter time when the new hire classes slow

How do you guys like the Class Bid system? Here at Chautauqua we will start using this system in July. Any recommendations or feedback would be great. Thanks in advance.

The key in using the system is to bid smartly. I.e., don't ask for too much or the system goes into "denial Mode". Then things just get ugly.

This spring I was bidding to have 3 days off any time I had off and then Sundays off. I also put in several trips that I wanted that we productive 3 day trips. I ended up working those trips, but I got them every weekend.

For April, I bid Sundays off, then put in average trip credit. That way it puts trips in that are quality high paying trips. I got every Sunday off.

You just have to learn the system. Once you get a couple of bids under your belt, you will like it.

Having lived almost 20 years under various bid systems (straight line, modified preferential, and Winbid), I'd easily say this is the best system. The key, as others have said, is to not get too greedy based upon your relative position on the seniority list. Low listers can usually bid specific days off, and maybe specific RON's, mid level can usually get specific trips on days within a specific range, and high level bidders can really tailor their schedules to their individual needs. Perhaps that is why so many here bypass upgrade for a time so as to enjoy the comfort of flying when, where and what they actually want. However, even the new line holders are getting pretty decent schedules these days, and after holding reserve for only a couple of months (I was on reserve for over 9 years in a previous life!)

Irregardless, I think you'll love the Class Bid system. Enjoy!

Thanks guys for your input. Everyone here is really looking forward to using this for our pref bidding system.
