Does anyone know when jetBlue is scheduled to become a "major" airline? I heard it may have happened by the end of this past quarter or, perhaps this summer some time.....

I don't know when the "year" of making a billion is considered, maybe the end of 2003, who knows? Maybe it is accumulative?

I am pretty sure though that we made it in 2003. If I am not mistaken, we were over $750 m at the end of Q3, leaving only $250 m in Q4, which is usually everyones best quarter. We'll see in a few days as I think our numbers come out soon. If we did make it, although it is just a title, I think it's quite an accomplishment with 53 planes. Even Gen. Lee would agree with that, right Pal?

Through the nine months ending in Sep 03, jetBlue had earned $735 million dollars in revenues. JetBlue will have to top $265 million in the fourth quarter to meet the $1 Billion threshold before being classified as a "major" airline. It'll be a close call considering how crummy revenues were for just about everybody in the last quarter. If not in 2003, then 2004 looks like a sure bet for making it.

Thanks Speedbird. I never claimed to be a numbers guy.

It's going to be awfully close. But apparently even if JetBlue does eke over the edge, the DOT won't make the designation until mid-year, maybe July. Takes 'em 6 months to look back at the previous calendar year or something. So it'll be awhile before anything happens on that front.

The tally is that it will be +/- 1M in either direction. So its very close.

Actually ya got ta do a billion for 3 consecutive years. We went through this at ExpressJet recently. Not to worry, JetBlue still rocks...classification as a major or not.
