Epic is your best bet if you have time. Their planes are new, the management/ownership is great. The employees are enthusiastic. The planes are cheaper than ERAU by about $20/hour, so a lot of business gets sent that way.
Stay away from RAA. $4,000 if you come in without any dual given, to my knowledge. Maybe it's that in general. They tried to hire three of our CFIs after they got laid off (ERAU). None took the job. Chose unemployment instead. Anyway, the management there is a bit suspect, at best...
No chance here at ERAU. Due to our being a union shop, the management has an interest in keeping costs down by keeping employment numbers down. About 40% of our compensation comes in the form of benefits, which are paid regardless of whether or not we work. We currently have 35 full-time laid off, set to return on August 18th. Plans are to downsize the Cessna and Seminole fleets from 57 to 50 and 10 to 9, respectively, come fall due to reduced enrollment and a new scheduling system set up to reduce fleet inefficiency. The planes are all on lease from Boeing, so fleet reduction comes rather easily for ERAU. Due to the chronic overstaffing here for the past 18-24 months, the fleet reduction, lack of attrition, and the decrease in students, our chief has decided (with much Union prodding there and with HR-Flight) that it may not be in our best interest to hire for the foreseeable future. If anything picks up, your best bet here is in December, if not next August (2004). Until then, best of luck...
ERAU is hiring for its FOFT program up in St. Augustine, however. You do need a decent amount of dual given and an MEI. A lot of our guys here are heading up that way to pursue their career. $1000/month + $15.00/contact hour. Good deal. Not sure how their numbers are coming along, however...The program started yesterday, to my knowledge...Check out their Web site for more details. However, the job posting is up at work and has been for more than two months. They are pretty good about updating it, too.
Anyway, best of luck. You'll be a little fish in a big pond, but have at it.
