Hey Everyone-

I might be moving down to the JAX or DAB area for more school in the fall and was wondering if anyone knew of anything for someone with my qualifications? I'll take anything from instructing on up... PM me or leave something here.

I would have to say that "finding" a job down there may take quite a bit if not ALOT of work and "luck" on your part. As many times as we fly down there and when I am able to talk to the "locals" I get the feeling that this area is quite over saturated with many qualified pilots and not too too many jobs to be had, even the CFI jobs appear to be tough to get. At a little over 800+ TT and being a Citation co-pilot I think you may be taking a step backwards when you get to FL, I would probably stay put and get as much jet time as you can if I were you especially at your times.... Seems like you have a pretty "sweet" deal that may be extremely hard to duplicate if not impossible in FL, just my opinion though...

Good Luck

>>had my first trip in the CJ1 the other week and pretty fun bird to fly so I would think twice about leaving your present job if I were you.

I went down there this past weekend, and i found that Regional Airline Academy in Deland Fl, is hiring flight instructors, but you have to pay $4,000 for their airline transistion course or something funky like that. There is also a flight school in New Smyrna looking for flight instructors... but the problem you have is you have quite a bit of hours.. these flight schools are looking for low time CFI's because they can keep you for a while until you get 1200+, but i would still give it a try.

yeah, its tough to find jobs in the DAB area. New Smyrna's flight school is Epic i think. They are supposed to have some pretty nice planes. AS for the gig in Deland. See those guys alot when ever im down there. sounds screwy with the 4000$ but im sure thats for the king air crap they do. There is always riddle to instruct at but goodluck getting that job. Flightsaftey MLB.

Dont know if Michelle is hiring instructors now or not.

jobs in DAB

Epic is your best bet if you have time. Their planes are new, the management/ownership is great. The employees are enthusiastic. The planes are cheaper than ERAU by about $20/hour, so a lot of business gets sent that way.

Stay away from RAA. $4,000 if you come in without any dual given, to my knowledge. Maybe it's that in general. They tried to hire three of our CFIs after they got laid off (ERAU). None took the job. Chose unemployment instead. Anyway, the management there is a bit suspect, at best...

No chance here at ERAU. Due to our being a union shop, the management has an interest in keeping costs down by keeping employment numbers down. About 40% of our compensation comes in the form of benefits, which are paid regardless of whether or not we work. We currently have 35 full-time laid off, set to return on August 18th. Plans are to downsize the Cessna and Seminole fleets from 57 to 50 and 10 to 9, respectively, come fall due to reduced enrollment and a new scheduling system set up to reduce fleet inefficiency. The planes are all on lease from Boeing, so fleet reduction comes rather easily for ERAU. Due to the chronic overstaffing here for the past 18-24 months, the fleet reduction, lack of attrition, and the decrease in students, our chief has decided (with much Union prodding there and with HR-Flight) that it may not be in our best interest to hire for the foreseeable future. If anything picks up, your best bet here is in December, if not next August (2004). Until then, best of luck...

ERAU is hiring for its FOFT program up in St. Augustine, however. You do need a decent amount of dual given and an MEI. A lot of our guys here are heading up that way to pursue their career. $1000/month + $15.00/contact hour. Good deal. Not sure how their numbers are coming along, however...The program started yesterday, to my knowledge...Check out their Web site for more details. However, the job posting is up at work and has been for more than two months. They are pretty good about updating it, too.

Anyway, best of luck. You'll be a little fish in a big pond, but have at it.
