The entire situation is comical. We're dealing with the TSA here, and NOTHING about this makes any sense.

Just wanted to throw this out there. I go to Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach. We have ID cards with our picture, name, logo and "FTRA Authorized" written on the front. We have to wear those whenever we are on the flight ramp. Both TSA and ERAU security staff come here quite often and try to walk around without a tag to see if someone stops them. We get in pretty big trouble if we do not approach them about their tag. They drill in "SCAN" (Stop, Challenge, And, Notify)


I guess in the end it's safer that way.

PS I have a totaly unrelated question to ask. I never lost my medical just washed in and had to order one from Oklahoma, so I do not know how to answer my friend. His medical is back home and he needs it for some paperwork and eventually when he flies solo. Can he substitute the actual with a copy. I told him that I didn't think so but I wanted to ask.
