Anyone have data for J-3 W&B. ('45, J-3, 65hp, 9 gal nose tank only)

Can a 5'11, 300# guy fly one solo. The data I have is EW=692# with a Gross of 1220. I'm looking for ballpark CG (full tank/empty tank) solo (guy in back seat). The seller wont be home until Sun night and I'd like to get an idea if my potential partner (partial owner) can fly it with his size, I'm going to look at it on Mon.

Also when (if) I go to fly it home I'll be going from CT south of Hartford to PA north of PHL. Can I fly under the NYC 30nm mode C area in a Cub w/o an electrical system? What about under the latteral limits of the TCA (class B)? Also under the lateral limits of an ARSA (class C such as ABE)? We will keep it at a field w/in the latteral limits of the PHL 30nm Mode C. I'm pretty sure that legal because the plane ws built before the reg or something like that, Its been along time since I've delt w/ these kinds of regs. Guess I should bust out the FAR's. If I still have one.

Insurance - ball park figs for 5000tt plus ATP guys with 200 plus tailwheel and like 50 to 100 in J-3's. Current in J-3, flying buddies. I'd just like and idea so I can wheel and deal with the agent when I call.

Finally anyone have the same data for a Champ 7AC (just to compare)?

THANKS

sounds like a tight squeez

I towed banners in 160 and 180 horsepower J-3 Cubs for http://www.aerialsign.com/ I am 5'6" and 180 and I had no problem. I never flew from the back seat though. I always sat in the front, no back seat, the view is much better for taxiing.

LearLove:

Our club has a '46 7AC, with the 65 HP engine.

Based on its W&B, your 300# buddy could solo from the rear seat with full fuel & burn down to about 7 gallons (41#) remaining & stay within the prescribed CG.

Hope this helps.
