Sorry if this is a repeat thread, but I hoped it would give some insight for those of us who were lucky enough to not have to work during last week's mess.

What's the latest TSA rules regarding flight crewmembers on duty? What about us commuters? I have heard we are exempt from many of the banned items if we are in uniform/on duty...any truth to it? Is TSA doing the same thing everywhere, or are they making up the rules as they go along? As a commuter, do I have to be in uniform to save some hassle? What about shoes now?

The TSA website was unhelpful...I couldn't find a link for crewmembers. Thanks for the information from those of you who've been working/commuting.

I did have to work....errrr....I mean, fly, during last weeks mess.

But my advice....commute in uniform....you should have no problems.

Anyone tried commuting in uniform out of an offline (non company) airport?

I've heard a few horror stories already, but haven't had the pleasure yet myself.

Just came thru PHL out of uniform - I was there when this started, and had to get home.

Get in big line for boarding pass like the pax, and take shoes off (they told me I HAD to - new rule.) They wouldn't let me thru w/out standby/jumpseat boarding pass even with badge.

Other than that all was well, but that is an on line station for us.

I'd go early for the first time. TSA standardization is as good as ever.

At DCA on Saturday morning I sent my bags through the belt and attempted to walk through the detector with...my grande Starbucks COD.

TSA: "Uugh...you can't take that drink through."

The looong security screeches to a halt....

Unit: "I'm not a passenger; I'm a pilot."

TSA: "You still can't take it through. "WE (my emphasis) can't have drinks either."

Unit: "I'm not a passenger; I'm a pilot. If I can't bring this though then someone go and get my bags over there and I will sit down somewhere and finish my coffee."

TSA: "Just a minute; we'll find a supervisor."

One minute goes by......

Supervisor: "He's pilot; he can bring it through."

Destined for FFDO school soon to avoid the hassle....

P.S. I won't take off my shoes either...paid extra for the plastic shank.

Yeah, make sure you're in uniform and security is just as it was before this whole debacle.

WTF? This thing is such a joke. Like a terrorist couldn't just go online to Sporty's and order a pilot uniform?

AMRCostUnit,

What's the deal with the FFDO thing saving you the hassle? What special treatment does an FFDO get through security? Not much for guns, but if it makes my commute easier, load 'em up!!

None.
If that's why you're going, don't go.

Your carrier should have an FFDO rep...give him/her a call and ask about the pros and cons.

Yup, tough choice. Should I go through this hassle or should I throw the dice and hope the bad guys have given up. Oops, there's the Brit' stuff!
You think this is over?

You've had your whole life to prepare for this and your excuse is, what?

Come again with the Brit part?

I'm sure you didn't miss the plot in London. At least 10 airplanes, explosives, radical Islam, etc...

No didn't miss that! sounded as if you thought the Brits were hoping the bad guys were giving up trying....
I wish the authorities here would take a page out of MI5's book or Isreali intelligence and look for terrorists and not just the weapons or toothpaste as they are into right now...

They tracked these SOB's by tapping phones, tracking emails, bank records, and internet surfing. Unfortunately, we're more concerned about being politically correct instead of taking the gloves off and rat f***ing these devils.

Yeah, the uniform isn't too hard to come by... But I'm hoping, truely hoping, that the company issued I.D. does prove to be alittle more difficult to acquire.
