Dash Trash's article hits the nail on the head.
On very rare occasions ALPA has had campaigns to educate the flying public, but the are usually ineffective. The odd thing is, studies dating back to the 1930's, have shown that the public does not demand lower wages or lower working conditions. The passengers do not want the pilots worrying about financial problems, lack of health care or poor working conditions, they want a "happy and contented flight crew", which only has their safety and well being in mind.
Airline management and their money people are the ones who are insisting on low wages and substandard conditions.
The public demands reasonable air fares (read: cheap) with good reason. The legacy carriers got away with murder for too long.
The free market rules.
