As for Airtran--I vote with my wallet. Going to a DC seminar on them tonight, and also paid the upgrade fee to ride business class. Gal at desk said "why aren't you just jumpseating...we almost always upgrade our jumpseaters..." I replied I HAD to be in DC and didn't want to risk not getting there, and I appreciate the company and don't mind using it to support my business. FYI--I send my wife on Airtran on business and upgrade her too, so again--anyone who knows me know how much I love her so they know I trust Airtran as well as support them financially.

Ty makes me laugh sometimes too--we've got to meet for beer and oysters sometime. He takes no crap off anyone, but at least you know where he stands. The Frank Zappa avatar, however, is due for a comeback...

As for AirTran and safety/quality of maintenance - it is outstanding. I think everyone here knows that the press associated with any mishap could spell the death of this airline.

Seems to me there was some outstanding airmanship behind the safe landings of those older DC-9s that had fires. Just the kind of Captains every airline needs.
