Is the ticket to go to training Stand-by? Im going out to training on Sunday and I happen to live in a city known for its New Year's Party. I fly the day after when airports are VERY busy. Is the seat confirmed or is it stand by? I definately dont want to miss training!

Any decent company would probably have you stand-by for a few flights, but at a certain point you need to declare yourself a must-ride. This happened to me a few times at XJet. Heck I had to jumpseat to get to my interview way back when. Too bad just starting off you don't know who to talk to, espcially over a holiday. My best advice would be to standby for the earlier flights and explain to the agents your situation. Be nice to them. They will understand and hook you up most likely for the later flights if need be. I watched an agent involuntary bump a girl yesterday and it was like watching AIRLINE in real life. Give them a little bit of sympathy for cleaning up the garbage of others.

Actually, you are wrong. You are a PS0 (must ride) to training. You WILL have a seat--they will bump rev. pax for you. The agents might bitch and moan and ask for your supervisor's name, but they have to give you a seat. Coming home from training, you are a PS5-they can bump you 1 flight for revenue pax, but the next flight you become PS0.
 
Just ask EatSleepFly what happened to him. He missed a training event by missing a jumpseat. He was forced to resign at Eagle or get fired. Don't let it happen to you too.

Actually, Rhoid, I was not forced to resign, nor were they going to fire me. But yes, I did miss a training event...I took the hit and I'm not making excuses. It was my fault completely, and I learned from my mistake.

Actually I jumpseated to my interview so they didn't have to bump revenue. I told the captain that I was willing to sit in the actual, showed him my previous company badge, he said cool and away we went. What's so illegal about that?

Whats wrong with JS to an interview???


IN 2001 I jumped in the cockpit on an airtran flight to my airtran interview and back. Did I do something wrong??? (other than turning down the job when gretta called 3 days later, that still hurts and its almost 4 years ago)
 
First of all that captain could be fired for letting someone besides a Cal, XJt, gulfstream, commutair or a IAH based Skywest pilot in the jumpseat. Sure an irresponsible CA may have let you do it but the TSA made this rule saying no offline jumpseats until this CASS sytems is up and running. (this is post 9-11. you could jumpseat prior to 9-11-2001)

So, Learlove no problem since you did it in 2001.(assuming prior to 9-11)

T-gates the rule that the Homeland sucurity and TSA have been enforcing that makes offline jumpseaters sit in an empty seat in the back.

Maddogg805 that CA took a stupid risk to get you in the jumpseat when you already had a seat in the back. It wouldn't be worth my job to do that crap.

I interviewed in 2000. There was absolutely NO RISK for anyone. I offered, the CAPTAIN approved, I rode in the actual. Period. Before you start bashing Nimitz or anyone else, I'd get you facts straight. When you're a captain you can call the shots, but for now leave the decision making to the grown-ups.

Ok now we really need to talk about tools. Let's look at the reason for the post. Donvag wants to know about today, post 9-11 and about getting to his interview. So when people start to give advice it needs to be current. So when people start talking about jumpseating and getting to the interview based on over 3 years ago they should just not comment since it does not apply to today. Secondly referring to actually sitting in the jumpseat, I think your a little confused. The whole point was having to sit in the jumpseat since the back was full. The only other option is the FA jumpseat and their union won't let a pilot sit in it. So my assuming that he sat in the cockpit was pretty darn easy to figure out. So I'm guessing that your school of thought is that you don't read carefully. So with that note I think I can throw the word tool around.


Finally yes the Captain calls the shots but they have to comply with the rules!!
 
It takes a big man to admit when he is wrong. I am not a big man. Just kidding I have to admit you got me on the interview vs training.
