They're getting 737s and the MD10 program is being cancelled too.

Seriously, I doubt that VERY much. They spent the money to interview once. How are they going to justify spending it again? In regards to rumors, I only believe them when I see it on company letterhead.

I doubt there is any truth to that. Here's a few nuggets for ya. I flew with a checkairman captian who recently had a meeting with Cheaver. He said they will probably have a "few" classes of 12 later this year. And on the down side, it appears FDX Express is not making a lot of $$, unlike the ground side. Seems our insurance rates have been raised so high it has cut into our profit margin a great deal. Also, if we smoke another one in, "bad things are going to happen."

Bad Things??

Lemme guess, Chapter 11?? Just liquidate the whole Express business??

Hmmmm, just in time for contract negotiations. . .

I wouldnt be suprised if both FedExExpress and UPS(airlines) both split from the ground portion of their companies and entered into ACMI agreements. Sort of like DHL and Astar/ABX

like Keith said

Rumors of not making much money and alike are purely chaff going into negotiations. We just spend 2.4 BILLION (with a B) on Kinkos. Profits are huge right now. Don't believe the B.S.

As for poolies being re-interviewd, FedEx has NEVER done this in the past with poolies (myself included).

Hang tight, see you soon. Hopefully I will be looking over my left shoulder atcha!

The insurance thing is a load of BS. We are by FAR less expensive too insure then any pax carrier period. The most expensive part of our insurance is liability for crashing into something. This has yet to happen! Basically we've crashed and burned a bunch of old planes that nobody else wants. And nobody has died. We could self-insure the aircraft themselves. It's all posturing for contract negotiations. I wouldn't be surprised if they start releasing the mishap reports with pilot error as soon as we start negotiations!

It's amazing to me how they can talk out of both sides of their @$$'s. To the employees the sky is falling and to the shareholders life couldn't be better.

They didn't by Kinkos from the profits from Ground. Margins are not where they were in 2000, but take a realistic look why.

1. The economy
2. We compete with ourselves with Fedex Ground
3. We have improved the quality and efficiency of one of our competitors, the USPS
4. Huge reliability issues and increased maint cost brought on by the postal contract. Old airplanes were ok, when you had all day to work on them, now most airplanes are doing double duty.

I'm sure there are more, but it amazes me how well we are actually doing, especially with as bad as the economy has been!

Not to make light of the situation, but those are the EXACT same words, plus some others, used when the last 2 planes got bent. There is no way that Fred is going to let an insurance company affect his company.

Oh yeah, and check this out:

Edited to add link for those with nothing better to do.

Well dammit. It's going to be a long night because I'm not quitting until I get the high score. Thanks for nothing VaB, you big dork.

Already in the works - read Jack's big message from a few weeks ago.

And all the ACMI aircraft in the world wouldn't even cover the Indy sort. But it's a good threat - look for ACMI heavies to be parked as "hot spares" on the feeder ramp as talks progress.
