I don't think this is politically correct, but it definately seemed to apply to all of us on Flightinfo.com.

ROFL,

It may not be PC, but is sure is funny!!

BTW, I used to coach Special Olympic kids back in the day, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Thanks for the laugh...

I don't really care if it's PC or not but it certainly isn't "funny". The word I would use is tacky, very tacky.

Gotta agree! Anyone who takes perverse delight at the misfortune of innocent children should take a long look in the mirror.

Not only did I laugh when I saw it last night. I laughed after I got into bed several times and then had to explain it to my wife without the help of a visual aid. I'm back here today and when I saw the subject I laughed again and will now forward the link to my wife so she can see what all the laughing was about and forward it on to others who will laugh as well.

Yeah, it's tacky. I'm officially ashamed of myself for laughing...

Seems to me that there is a big difference....the kid in the picture has a life-he is out doing something.
This seems sorely lacking in most of the people who argue ad nauseum about anything on here.

Personally I think the image of Rumpletumbler sitting around giggling to himself for no apparent reason sounds way more "retarded" (and funnier) than a kid with Down's syndrome.

Finding delight in something that uses at its foundation the misfortune of innocent children reveals in that person a classless, cruel, and tasteless streak that will hopefully be rewarded someday with a good, thoroughly-administered b1tch-slapping.

My brother was in the special olympics, and although it's not PC, I found it funny. I felt a bit guilty, but you gotta admit it is funny!

I think Cat Yaaak's remark was funnier than the pic itself :D :D

Very poor taste. RT should be ashamed of yourself, but I know you are not.

I probably should. I don't take it the way most folks seem to though. I take it as making fun of folks like me who debate a thing or three on the internet. I would not advocate making fun of the mentally or physically retarded. And just how do you know that I wouldn't be ashamed of myself?

RT

At least he's out there running, which I need to do more often.

As for my retarded brother, he rarely exerts himself, and it shows.

As for the internet, we are participating, which is what the special olympics is about. The retarded kids are better for their "olympic" experience, and I like to think that we come away from this message board having gained a little insight from our visits.

Even so, after a couple of hours at the computer, I start to feel a little like my brother...

I don't know, but I just based my statement on your follow up post:

I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you thought it was still funny. That's all.

Not only was this NOT funny but it also shows that you have very little IF any class- Laughing at someone who was born with a mental and physical disorder shows you have problems of your own.

not funny folks. VERY tacky to say the least.

Could any of us experience such pure, simple, innocent and unadulterated joy from something so simple?

I respectfiully submit that there is doubt regarding who it actually is that has the handicap.

OK, I thought it was funny in a perverse way (I am officially reprimanding myself) and you have to admit there is a little truth in it. And Brother Francis leaves us with a valuable thought also.

Oh, I see. I thought we were laughing at the analogy. Some of you thought I was laughing at that child giving everything he has to a race.

This thread just about sums it all up, doesn't it?

Thank you AV1ATRX.

That was my point exactly.

I can see how some people are amused by that picture. To each his/her own I guess. What I've found funny in the past is that one of my sisters, who has down syndrome, and of course does not have the best spelling or writing technique, is really no worse at it than some of the pilots I see writing on this board!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You'd think if a person can learn how to fly a jet airplane they could learn how to spell correctly......

OK, I think I can bring this thread to a screaching hault (or get it moving at mach 3)

I think everyone who is judging people for finding the joke funny is missing the joke. THE KID IS NOT THE JOKE.... WE ARE!!!!! (yes I include myself)

The context of the joke isnt a kid who is different, its that we can all be a bunch of dumb arses. If you break the joke down and look at a single part, your going to miss the intent. I can prove to you this point by showing you how anything can be funny if put in the right context.

Pick a subject...... rape..... ok rape

Rape is not funny until you put it in the correct context.

Picture Porky Pig rapping Elmer Fudd......

Its all about the context......

My god peolpe

You should be ashamed of yourselves.........all of you.

No one pointed out the fact that his shoes were on the wrong feet.

But it was tacky...............so much so I saved it as my background.

Phishn@daves:

You need to buy me a new laptop because I threw up on mine laughing so hard at your response. I swear we are all a real piece of work here. Thanks for the laugh!!

PS Name one person who didn't go back and look at that picture after reading Phisn@daves response?!

"tacky", "not PC" = no difference. PC is a realistic concept of what is and is not socially acceptable. There is nothing wrong with political correctness. However, there is something wrong with the abusive use of the term "PC" as a way of minimizing or villifying certain ideals.

All PC aside, even in a pure humor discipline, this isn't even remotely funny. Perhaps it is to those that are easily entertained.
