KCOS has: 17L/35R 13500 x 150 ft. and 17R/35L 11021 x 150 ft. Its coupled with Peterson AFB which is probably a major factor since C-5s routinely fly in.

Most of those long runways (like Denver Int'l) are at higher altitude locations. What's neat is all the long runways in California, that are between sea level and 1000' MSL.
Lemoore - two runways that are 13500'!
March - 13300'
Beale - 12000'
Mather - 11300'
McClellan - 10600
Castle (Merced) - 11800'
Edwards - 15000'.
SFO - 11900 & 10600'
LAX - 12100, 11100, 10300'
Victorville - 15000
And many more.

Aren't several of those you listed (March, Beale, Mather, Castle) former B52-U2 (SR71?), heavy lift cargo bases? Some are located in the warm valleys as well if I'm not mistaken. Kinda makes sense to have such long runways when operating laden aircraft.

B-52s and KC-135s (and even B-47s, B-58s, and B-36s). The four you mentioned all had Buffs and/or tankers based at them at one time or another. SAC runways were built for them, and they used every inch and then some, especially the A-model tankers. The midwest is dotted with huge runways in the middle of nowhere from back in the days when Curtis LeMay ruled. Clinton-Sherman, Salina, and Forbes are three that come to mind right off, and I'm sure there are more. 12000x300 seemed to be the standard. Oh, to have been a cement contractor in the '50s and '60s.......

That is certainly the case at KAUS, with its 12248 foot runway. That runway was 300 feet wide when it was Bergstrom AFB, but as part of the conversion to a civil airport they reduced the width to 150' by painting strips and moving the runway lights. The airport people said 150' is the international standard width for airline runways.

I think maybe it was to discourage Southwest from requesting formation takeoffs to reduce ground time.

I was riding in the jumpseat once over Northern New Mexico. We spotted this long runway on the top of a plateau in the middle of no where. Looked really out of place so FO asked ATC what was up with it. Turns out the runway belongs to the Church of Scienctolgy. Guess that is where the Saucer people will be touching down on the day of reckoning. Anybody know the name of the place?

The east runway at COS is 13500 ft long because that is the balanced field length for a fully loaded B727 in the summer at 6000 ft msl. The fact that there is a military base co-located with COS had nothing to do with the runway length. Fedex at one time was going to build a hub there and this runway was built to try and entice Fedex to locate in COS

Hey, I cleared a "flight" of three SWA jets for TO one time, but they said it wasn't in their Opspecs. Ah well.

ABQ Runway 8/26
Dimensions: 13793 x 150 ft. / 4204 x 46 m

ELP Runway 4/22
Dimensions: 12010 x 150 ft. / 3661 x 46 m

And I've seen a few 727-200s use darn near every bit of it in summer.
