A Guy I work with just got the call to interview on 17 August. He has ~1500 PIC turbine, no type, military. Hope that helps. As I understand it they are calling those without the type but about 80% of the ones actually hired already have the type since the pool is dry. Cheers!

The only guys I know that were called to interview without the type were check airman types or the like. The standard line pilots still need the type. I got the interview call about one month after getting the type and interviewed just less than 2 months after that...success in the process TBD...

My friend is in the training department of my airline and got hired without the type. I asked him if he knew of anyone else that was on his same situation and he said that there were at least 5 other guys he knew of that got hired without the type. I hope this helps and good luck to everyone.

Im going for an interview without the type. Although I am a check airman, I know of others who are not that also have an interview. I went to the job fair in June and this may have also helped. Keep updating your app.

buddy interviewed a few months ago, no type. Also (true statement) about 3500 turbine PIC in corporate glass-cockpit jets. Early 30's. Degree. Internal contacts. MEI, CFII, etc etc. Real nice guy, laid back, relaxed, etc.

did not get hired.

He's probably an idiot.

Interview 6 Sep. No 737 type, 4863 hrs, 2130 PIC (FAR pt 1) (both unadjusted military time), NATOPS Instructor at last command, presently ME Instrument instructor in my sunset tour in the Navy.

Best of luck all,
265

A buddy of mine just got the call this week.

His stats:
Civilian
7,000 + TT
4,000 + TPIC
Furloughed Legacy
Several corporate jet types
NO 737 type
Not a Check Airman (nor has he ever been)
4 year degree

It can be done. This makes two friends of mine hired without types.

Is SWA still interviewing without a type?...If so, what are the competitive minimums? Thanks for any good info!

Yes. Lots.

Average #'s:

4000 TT
1500 TPIC
Chk Airman/IP/Trng Dept, etc.

Or so I've heard...

about 20-30% of the folks interviewing don't have the type right now. i am not sure what the hour/experience background difference is between those who have it and those who don't, nor the odds of getting hired after the interview for those with and without the type.

i still highly recommend it because if you want an interview it seems they are getting fairly easy to come by if you have the mins and a type (assuming no negative background etc.)

I interviewed in June. No type, no check airman, no training dept. I had 7000 with 2200 turbine (prop) 121. Been in the system since online app started and updated A LOT. Maybe they go by time in system, hours, and rate of updates. I think a guy that updates every 1-2 weeks vs. a guy that updates every 6 months has a huge advantage.

I start class in Sept.

Good luck to all

ps.....during my interview, there were 15 guys, I think 4-5 of us was not typed. Not sure about check airman though.

Interviewed in May, no type, 1600 turbine PIC, 4600 total time, not a check airman, got hired, in class in Sept, got lucky.

How does it look for us fellas waiting for a 2nd "at bat"? I've got 6 months togo till my yr is up. I am typed...but had no jet time before. I've sinced changed AC and am flying the RJ now. Whatdoya think. Is there an avg. wait time for 2nd timers?

Just got my letter today from SWA so try again in a year. I interviewed without the type, no internal recs, complete shock I got the call and I was the only one in my group of the 11 that did not have the type. So now I have to wonder if that would have made the difference. Wouldn't have changed anything in the interview

I'd say its pretty random. About 1/2 of my class was hired w/o a type. What is also weird, is that less than 1/2 of the class is military. Talked to a recruiter today, and said that it all depends on if a recent class has to be filled. Good luck to all, this place rocks :)

Another data point...

FYI, For those waiting for the second-at-bat, I'm 8 months past my year in holding. No 2nd call so far. My app is updated every two weeks.

Current 121/MilRes
3700tt/2100PIC
Typed Dec03

I just interviewed this week. 2nd time around for me, 4yrs4mo from first interview. I updated about once a month.

4yrs. 4months. Ugh...I hope I don't have to wait that long.
