Why are the current contracts "crew intensive"? How do you guys get paid for when you are getting into position? Thanks for the info...

Positioning crews throughout the system ie MXP-KWI-BOM-MAA-SAW-MXP would need 2 three man crews or 3 two man crews. The DC10 could do it with 4 pilots ie 2 crews. The 11 takes a minimum of 6 pilots to do this particular routeing

We get 1 for 4 DH commercial. 1 for 3 DH on our own a/c.

That schedule is the reason I won't be applying. How can you even contemplate having a family life? 16 days is waaaaay too long. Sure, I know that Atlas has longer trips - something like 21-25 days in a row. I note that UPS doesn't have super long trips like that but it can be impossible to get on with UPS - that's the catch.

I had a 15 day month/pay period with 13 days off (UPS). Gone from home the entire time. Have had folks on my crew gone for 27 days in a row. (last contract), I believe now that the limit is somewhere in the low to mid 20 days gone at a time.

Kumar just called with my travel. Commercial to BOM on first leg this time, flying with two DC-10 transition FO's from the class behind us.
Who does Emerates code share with?
Waldo

While on the road last month I did:

MXP-MAA in business class no less than 3 times in the middle of my 15 days.

1st time, BA
2nd time, Emirates
3rd time, Air France

I opened up fresh milage cards for all 3 as I don't think you can get miles on UA or AA if you've originated the trips outside the US and the tickets were booked on those airlines, rather than AA or UA..

But yea, I managed to end the month with 62 hours in the back of the plane, and 31 in front.. Hope this is a temporary state while we crew up the fleet.

Wow that is a lot better than the real story. I have talked to the Captain and one of the f/os (there were two) and the loadmaster.
I am not going into specifics, however they were afforded local lawyers provided by the compay and also sort advice from the US Embassy. The Captain was in contact with the company during the majority of the ordeal. A dispatcher did lose his job over it, more of a scapegoat. The dispatch team is overworked and undermanned.

It was interesting to say the least hearing the story from the horses mouth that day in MAA that's for sure..

I think this CA btw.. has since moved on to Brown.

Hey Fog! I got t BOM minus my bags, courtesy of BA.

Join the club...

....went 4+ days with the same jeans, birkenstocks and had to take a pair of underware from the CA that's now at Brown to get by! We need to avoid BA if at all possible until they get their act together.

Yes, he starts class at Brown on the 23rd. Move up another number, boys! It didn't affect me as I was a couple of numbers senior.
There are other Capts looking, however.
Hey Fog! I got t BOM minus my bags, courtesy of BA. I think my AA miles took as I started in the states. I may do the same and get cards for the other carriers for travel when over here.

Good grief. How do you start your 17 days with no bags? What do they expect you to do?

Thanks for the concern, folks. I always travel with the valuables, razor, toothbrush, etc, and my medications with me.
BA did give me a debit card for 50 pounds and fortunately clothing is very inexpensive here in India.
Even better is that my bags arrived on the next flight and were fortunately delivered to my room just 4 hours before check out! Whew!
I kind of figured they would as my turn around time was just 25 minutes at LHR. I was greatful to the Captain for holing at the gate as I arived at the gate at pushback time. I realy didn't expect the bags to make the turn. Nice flight in business class on BA, but I agree, V70, they need to get the bag drag going better, not to mention better layover times. The map on their site says allow 60 minutes to go from T4 arrival gates to T4 departure gates.

What do they expect you to do?
Handle it, handle it, handle it! That's the life of a freight dog, I'm afraid.
We are very much autonomous when we operate on the road.
