Yes. I think so.

Current heading, I believe it is. I think if ALPA can re-prioritize however, we can avoid the iceberg. Will we miss the iceberg? Do we even recognize the iceberg yet?

There is so much bullstuff going on that it is hard to tell.

I don't think we have seen anything off the wall. We all knew SLC would close. It just made sense. We have been hearing that the ATR's would go away for years.

All the letters from BL, CT, and SH are about as worthless as our strike center. Doesn't mean s h i t at this point.

I can't help believe that JA is more interested in running a profitable business than he is with all the silly games being played at ASA. I believe the two signs to watch for that will tell JA true intentions:

He gets rid of the head clown running ASA = ASA has a future.
Skywest opens a base in ATL = it is all over for ASA.

If ALPA re-prioritizes, is that going to fix ASA's dismal performance numbers? On-time departures yesterday in the high 30% range and bag lost around 27 per 1000 pax. Regardless of our contract, who in their right mind would want to do business with ASA???

Good question FmrFreightDog, but if ALPA gets everything it is asking for, will that fix our dismal performance numbers? ATL will always have problems that other hubs don't have, with or without a new contract, and with or without ASA.

Funny, I see Delta and Airtran putting up better numbers month after month. Tell me again how ATL is the problem?

Look at Delta's and Air Tran's numbers compared to the industry. Also look at Delta's numbers at all of their hubs..... ATL is by far the worst. Two problems in ATL for DAL/ASA. It is the single largest hub in the world for a single airline, and it has a "work ethic" problem that isn't seen elsewhere. Put those two things together, and we will always have trouble with our numbers....

The iceberg is in that drink glass beside you! Alcohol has pickled your brain. What happened to your good scope/bad scope mantra? Now, it's beware of the iceberg!

Skywest can't be everywhere. I doubt they want any part of Atlanta because it would bring down their cupcake numbers. It would also go against the Man's theme of having two companies in the same hub.

The real question is what are you going to do when your ATR goes away. I hear they are waiting on you in the RJ training department. Maybe you can get on the same extended training program that your girlfriend was on.

ASA is a very profitable airline. It has been profitable since it's inception. The recent quarterly results are evidence. The margins are in the 13% range and ASA has by far the lowest operating costs on the CR2 and CR7 in the regional industry. ASA makes alot of money despite poor mangagement.

Yields are much lower out west than they are in the Southeast and Northeast. The profit center for Delta is ATL and the Northeast. Delta thought about closing down SLC when they closed down DFW.

ASA is not a sinking ship! Do you really think that this company is going down the tubes when it will make about $100 million this year?

Ouch. I like it.

It seems everybody has heard the story of how his older girlfriend got two shots at the CRJ program. She had a break in her first training and got to start over again. The second time around she got to the sim sessions and conveniently got back problems (yellow fever). After her training partner was allowed to continue his training about a week later she had an immaculate recovery. She knew that the entire four hours sim time would be given to her with an IP flying right seat. She finally checked out and with the most time in ground school and total sim time of any student going through the program.

Little Joey may try and use the same strategy. The two of them use the system and others with no regard for ethical behavior. His 250 knot brain will be still taxiing out for departure when he gets his first V1 cut.

If it take him as long to check out as it has taken to get him to do his job as LEC Sec/Treas. he may retire in training. Maybe some of the IP's will ask Joey why he thinks they are overpaid prima donnas.

Please don't take this as a flame because it's not...I am seriously looking for another job and if something bigger (aka continental/airtran, etc.) doesn't pan out soon then I'll make the move to another regional...that being said...

How attached is the ATL flying to the ASA pilots, is there anything that legally/contractually prevents Skywest from simply transfering the flying to SkyWest pilots?

I think it is clear that RJ flying is profitable out of ATL, however, that would be true regardless of which regional was doing the flying.

thanks

Very doubtful about ASA sinking. As stated before, Atkins is more interested in making money. ASA as it stands right now using current AC and net profits (not gross), makes a little over twice per airplane as does SkyWest.

Doesn't sound to me that this company will be going anywhere at this point. But since the elections are upcoming, don't look for a contract until elections conclude.

If it sinks it won't be cause the pilots did or didn't have a new contract.

Why would you allow a ship to sink when it is making you money? ASA will slug through this the same as it did during "George and John". JA is rattling the pilot group and from the postings here it appears to be working. As for the ASA guys "Jumping ship", most if not all are from that side of the Mississippi and F/O's with little or no seniority. Makes sense for them.

Is the ship sinking......hmmm

Well, I did see that Dicaprio kid coming back from the front of the boat today yelling something about being the king of the world.

Basic rule of business is that you don't jack with a gig that's making you money! This is also taught at Wharton. Even JA knows that (I think?).

It is very simple-ATL sucks because of the local job pool they use. Read between the lines it is what it is. People try to be so f u c k e n correct these days. Grow a pair.

It's not sinking. It's going to shrink until there is no more ASA. It will be a slow transion Im sure. Didn't JA say that was going to happen if your cost didn't come down? Not pilot cost, the company as a whole. Most of you said it was BS, well wake up. It's happening. Your performance numbers SUCK!

MELIT what are you basing your cost figures on?

We as pilots, can't control costs outside of our pay. I heard that ASA was spending about $50,000 a month on bags just in ATL. Besides I thought the contract between Delta and SKY Inc. was that ASA had to do 80% of the flying out of ATL. Plus SKY flys for Delta and United. They need another carrier. So the real question is, how big or small will JA decide to make ASA?

Have you been to Philly? lol

All parties are watching closely, this includes mother "D". Skywest does not get a lot of time to screw around. There is no time to watch feeding companies mess around as "D" is trying to fix their financial problems. Skywest, Inc. needs to realize that even they can be replaced.

I am using hard numbers from the SEC filings to determine the amount of money ASA makes per plane. It's about $103K more an airplane than does SkyWest. This is from the net profits posted by each company. Overall costs are paid before reaching those net profit numbers. Divide this by each airplane and SkyWest makes alot less an airplane than ASA.

Performance is related directly to ramp ops. I have yet to meet a pilot no matter what outfit, that wants to be late. They all push to be on time. Thats the problem with most pilot types, they are not schmucks. They've worked hard to be where they are (except GIA and the 250 hour wonders) and it's a matter of pride to be on time.

No, I don't see ASA going away. JA bought himself a cash cow in a world of 1-1.5% profit margins that achieves over 4%.

Once again,JA said it was going to shrink and it is.There is your proof. I guess you are smarter than JA.

Have you actually looked at DL domestic numbers lately? They are actually not much better than ours. No other DL hub has the shear volume of ATL and may god bless you if they are having a wx day. With the closure of 8R it will get worse B4 it gets better. If you don't know what GDP stands for you will very soon.

As for the labor pool DL and Citrus use the same labor pool as we do so what is your point. Manpower was an issue and is showing improvement as more people finish class.

Fly Safe...
