I am new to the board and have sifted through the old postings but haven't found more then one recommendation of people who can prep someone for a Southwest interview. I have heard names like Craig Thorton, Rob Beeks, Judy Tarver, and Kathy Sweeny. I don't have any personal friends who have used these people, just names from boards. Could anyone please help? I have about 4 weeks to my interview and probably need help.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks..

I did a session with Craig Thornton. $300 for a 3 or 4-hour session (sorry, I can't remember how long the session was, but it was quite sufficient). He's a great guy, gave me some excellent pointers, and is worth the money. It's true that his calendar is tough to get on. After you get the call from SWA to interview, your very next phone call should be to Craig (or whomever you choose to prep with).

Another good recommendation is Brenda at [email protected]
Her clients have been very successful and she can do it all over the phone. She does a great job of helping you tell YOUR stories in a clear meaningful way. Good luck to you.

You need to contact Aaron Hagan (AlbieF15 from Flight Info)

I can't recommend Aaron Hagan from www.emeraldcoastinterviewconsulting.com highly enough. Take a look at his website. He and his wife run a top notch prep program. He was critical in my success and that of many of my friends at JetBlue. He'll give you your money back if you don't pass the interview so you've got nothing to lose. He preps for JB, SWA, AirTran, FedEx, etc.

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone.

I tried calling Craig Thornton but the number on his web site is a wrong number (480)981-0034. Does anyone have an updated number?

That's what I did but his number is wrong. Bummer...

I'm under the impression he is not interested in doing this anymore.

Leaning on the unprofessional.

Many. many others to choose from though.

Good luck!

I agree. Based on other feedback I have received in this matter I will have to stop recommending him. Too bad.

I just heard from one of my co-workers who used him and didn't like him very much. Very aggressive and demeaning.

Well, Rob Beeks is also off the list. His number and e-mail address is no longer valid. The list is getting thinner.

It's either emeraldcoast or HPA personnel. Has anyone dealt with the HPA person, Judy Tarver? What about Kathy Sweeney?

SWAbound,

Try PM'ing Kathy (aka Resume Writer). She is a great person and would be more than happy to help out. I have spoken with her via telephone already about her prep and will use her if/when I get an interview. I was very impressed with her friendliness and professional guidance even though I was only calling to inquire.

If you are ASA will you PM me please, I have a couple of questions I would like to ask you.

I used Judy Tarver. She was very pleasent, and had good suggestions that I think allowed me to build some confidence before I went in. While much of what she told me fell in the category "i knew that" it helped reinforce that I was on the right track. If you have poor interview skills I think any of the listed names would help, and no one person is the secret to the interview.

Before you go blow some serious coin, take the following into account:

1. 90% of your problem I bet is simply getting over your nerves in the interview. That will best be cured with some face to face interview prep. If you do it over the phone (and I did one as well as a sit down face to face) you will help your situation, but you really need to be looking at a real interviewers eyes when you respond. So even if you need to go to your neighbor or wife/husband for some practice face to face, do that and 1/2 the battle is won. Go out of your way wherever you are to be personable with people, so that you feel more comfortable yapping ad lib.

2. Ask your friends what they really like/dislike about you. Of my buds who didn't get hired here at SWA, one was a jabberbox and the other was stoic. I thought they were great guys but you only get one chance to make a first impression as they say. You have about 20 minutes to get the interviewer to like you, or at least not hate you. Ask your friends how you might screw that up and what they suggest to fix it.

3. I think who you go to doesn't matter as much as if you get to sit down face to face with them. SWA specific interview prep is nice, but who knows what questions you are really going to get that day. I'm sure a local firm in town does prep work (head hunters) for cheaper and in person compared to the ones most circulated on the aviation board. Once the stage fright is gone, just practice with your friends/spouse, tape and critique it.

Good luck

AlbieF15!!!!!

I just did a seminar with Albie yesterday. I HIGHLY recommend you contact him. My confidence in my interviewing abilities has soared after going through his seminar. He and his wife do an excellent job at showing you how to answer questions and systematically attack an interview. What they don't do is give you canned answers to use. They help you develop YOUR stories.

Do a search on this board and try to find something negative about Albie and read all of the positive posts about what he does. Besides, what do you have to lose with a money back guarantee?

I went with Judy Tarver down at Higher Power. I thought she did an excellent job and I can't recommend her highly enough. She was knowledgeable and professional. There is a ton of information out there on what questions will be asked, but she can help you figure out what types of things they actually are looking for with those questions. I found that it was very helpful to the structure of my interview answers.

It seems like decades ago that I interviewed so I don't know how much she charges. If you go to the Higher Power website www.jetcrew.com they might have a link for her, or you could just call them.

Good luck.

Al-bie....Al-bie...Al-bie

Take my advice and use Albie. I was VERY skeptical when I decided to use him because I fancy myself as being an excellent public speaker...quick on my feet type of guy. I have over eleven years of CRM instructor experience both with the military and a with the top CRM training provider in the country, so "what's this guy going to teach me?" Guess what? This old dog learned a bunch of new tricks. The main thing is that he gets stuff you might already kinda realize, but have either forgotten or never thought much about, and he puts it up in your RAM for quick access. Good guy, good service.
