Funny thing about arbitration, you never know how it will turn out. All the bravado aside it's a crap shoot. The arbitrator(s) have not consumed large amounts of LUV juice and have no special feelings about "culture". They also have not been involved with the rise of a little airline in the busiest airport in the world battling Big D for survival. They have no attachment, and no stake in the company affected by their ruling. This is why it would behoove both sides to reach an agreement before arbitration. If an agreement were to pass both groups, it would be hard for one side to feel hosed.
Neither side really knows what the ruling would look like. Do they see things in line with AWA/USAir or DAL/NWA, or do they see this as something different? Do both pilot groups want to bet the future on this? Work together, come up with something fair, and hopefully both sides realize compromise is better than a crap shoot.
