Intreasting ILS last night-

On a LONG final, approach says they need to vector us in a box in order for traffic sequencing... a DC-9 behind us. After the 4th turn (as we did one right and all lefts to get on final) the DC-9 apperars right in front of us, on final. No traffic calls, and a late vortex warning call about 5 mins later when we are finally on final. Then, on short final (about 1 mile) the tower clears another heavy for take off, and tells us to slow our speed (which is not big deal, as we are in a helo). Just wondering if this was standard sequencing... my crew said I should give the controller a call, but it did not really bother me too much as I just thought the B squad was at the tower that night.

Sounds like the tower wanted you to shoot approach direct to terminal tarmac rather than dodge between heavy traffic. I have never heard tower ask a pilot for something, always the pilot asking tower for an alteration. Why is that?
