I have been a member of Flightinfo.com for 8+ years and a moderator for 5. Several years ago, Mark (the deceased creator of this site) asked me and several other veterans of the site to be moderators. His original intention was to stop the flamebaiting, name calling, offensiveness, and general malcontent on the boards so that it wouldn't become a gripe fest like so may other boards. He gave us the freedom to apply the web board rules as we saw fit, and always backed us up when we took action, because he operated on the premise that he could never read all of the posts himself, and that he trusted our decisions.

It seems as though things have changed now that Mark has passed away, and new administration has taken over. As many of you are aware, I recently banned General Lee for what I percieved as his history of berating regional ("commuter", LOL) pilots. There was an outrage, and eventually another moderator restored him.

I apologize to the general. I was only doing what I've done for the last 5 years.

That said, I've decided that moderating isn't what it used to be. Apparently the rules have changed, and judging by the messages the "Websitemaster" have been sending me, the duties of the moderators have changed. I do not wish to be embroiled in an argument with him and the other members every time I moderate something, so I have chosen to step down as a moderator. I have not been forced out or asked to resign, but have chosen it freely because it's just not worth it anymore. I'll still be a member of the site.

After reading the above it looks like to me he blamed the whole thing on all the "changes" that have taken place since Mark left us. Just can't accept the fact that he was just plain WRONG. Nice attempt Ifly4food to stand up and do the right thing. Too bad you failed miserably!

Resigning is not the way you handle mistakes!! Mistakes are handled by owning up to them and attempting to make them right. You fell down fly for food and there is no shame in falling down. The shame comes when you refuse to rise after you have fallen. Think about that!!!

Most of the REGIONAL airlines of today were called COMMUTERS in the past. The RJ has allowed those airlines to now expand to other regions, and soon the REGIONAL term will be outdated. But, I didn't mind telling people back then that I was a commuter pilot. I flew planes between cities that many people could drive cars between in less than a day. Today it would take many days to drive the same distance an RJ normally flies.

I think some of these pilots who post on these boards are scared to death of the "regional" airlines because they feel threatened by them. Especially the legacy guys. They have priced themselves out of business and don't know how to remedy the situation. To much capacity, fuel costs, and not enough cash to stop the bleeding. The LCC's are kicking their butt and they are in big time denial. It will continue. The beast is trying hard to adjust but is still dying a slow death. Look for major concesions by Delta and NWA in the next 2-3 months. Delta pilots will not walk. Heard the other day that if Delta is to survive, they will be less than half of what they are now.

Instead of trashing him, you should be trashing your company. A gate agent in ATL last Friday wanted to charge me $30 for a jumpseat. This is crap and you Airtran pilots need to negotiate a change. I will remember this when one of you guys want a ride.

So what is a REGIONAL jet? It sure hasn't been bringing in too much money as of late for the legacies. Can you explain that? Could a "REGIONAL" airline have REGIONAL JETS? I didn't make up that term. You should know this, you fly it!

I move that we drop the labels "commuter pilot" and "regional pilot"... let's just call them what they are: "feeder pilots".

Grow up folks. Commuter, regional, major, corporate, airline, freight, student, and dumb are all adjectives that we can add to the noun "pilot"...

What's wrong with calling a spade a spade? I am a proud commuter pilot. I commute to jfk four times a month, I work as a pilot, and then I commute home.
