The flights are looking pretty tight on Delta this weekend for non-rev travel and I was wondering how to go about checking the loads on other airlines for an ID 90 ticket. Is this possible or do I just have to show up and take my chances? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually of you call your airlines employee travel line (if you have one) they can look for you.

Hope this helps.

I just call the airline in question, tell them who I am, that I'm thinking about an ID90, and ask how it looks. Some agents are more forthcoming than others, i.e., some will say "it looks good" or "it's oversold," whereas others will give you exact figures for how many seats are left to sell or how many it's oversold by. Southwest has often asked where I'm going, and done a bit of research over the phone to find the route I'm most likely to get to work.

Delta's reservations web site has a "pick a seat" map that'll show you unassigned seats, and that often gives you a pretty good idea how open a flight will be.

American has something similar. I forget how to get to it, but I have it bookmarked:

Most of the airlines are as helpful as can be if you call them up. I've used Southwest quite a bit lately since Metrojet died, and their non-rev line has been a real lifesaver.

Hope that helps.
