I have the 135.243 minimums and am current, so I shot my resume' off to Ram Air, Mountain Air and Package Express last Tues. (fax). Haven't heard a peep of them. I guess I'm not good enough. I read, in this forum, that they were in dire need of pilots as the one's they now have are jumping ship to the regionals. Any insiders that can share some info? I'm on the verge of calling 1-800-BIGTRUCKS.
Thanks in advance.

You'd think most of the crappy operators would have a use for you...with all the regionals hiring and what not.

Did you follow up at all? I'm sure they need pilots, but I'm also sure they get a heck of a lot of resumes to wade through.

No offence, but you're in for a rough ride in this business if you assume "you're not good enough" because you send out resumes to three companies and dont hear back in a week.

Send more resumes and follow up with a polite phone call.

Good Luck!

You don't wanna keep flying that 1900?

Don't get discouraged!

Save that for later. If they are like me, they are trying to contact everybody and say thanks or no thanks.

In part thats why I send out a "canned" email reply. I get resumes from Singapore, Spain so even ZULU time gets in the way. I am sure if we (Flight Express) are hiring, so too are other operators. To that end, I have a class date of April 18th. If you are interested, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read our website www.flightexpress.com FIRST and realize what we can and cannot offer. Additionally make sure you are comfortable on instruments. A great rule of thumb is, if you can pass the FAA instrument written and checkride, you should have no problem here.

If you want a flying job, we have them. You can PM if interested. I would be happy to talk with you. Good luck out there and remember "Chicks dig pilots." Just don't show them your paystub until you are flying for the bigs.

Got to go in person

Smaller companies do not have full time hiring recruiting staffs. They get many resumes, many are just shoppers and they take up time that is in short supply. Therefore, samll companies rarely respond to blind resumes. At small companies you almost have to visit in person, sell yourself and be available. Try to network and find someone inside the company to either hand carry your resume or introduce you to the guys making hiring decisions. Having sent out probably several 100's of blind resumes, ones not responding to an ad, over my career I never gotten a response.

Call!!!

You should never think of sending a resume in as an end all in itself. All of the people running these places are busy. And in any situation the resumes with follow ups are the ones that get noticed first. I can just about garuntee you that if you have the 135 mins and call package express at 704-795-1600 and talk to Richie Lengel and are willing to relocate to where you need, you WILL have a job. Tell Richie Caleb told you to call!

Richie Lengel??? He was my CP at Saber. Tell him Tom said hi too. And yes in person is much better with Richie. Just show up and tell him you're there for the interview... haha! thats what I did years ago.

Thanks guys for all the good advice, I am going to take it.
I sent out 35 or so resume's in December to regionals and cargo operators all over the country. The lastest three were to operators in my region. I hesitate to call because I feel like my resume' will go straight to the round file if I do. At this point I don't care, I'm going to start calling some folks.
I should'nt have listed the B1900 in my profile, it consisted of 20 minutes with an instructor in the FlightSafety level D sim. I did'nt even log it.

As these guys have said, finding a job is a job in itself. When I first became a CFII, I sent out probably 100 resumes and received 2 offers. Fortunately one of the offers worked out and got me where I am now. However, that method was not very effective.

Once having the 135 mins and over 100 hours multi, mostly turbine, I learned how to find opportunities. You can't just send out resumes and hope for a response. Many companies have on-line applications and do not want resumes. Others want faxed only resumes. And, others just want it emailed to them. You have to find the most effective method for your qualifications to find the recruitor's desk. Also, once it gets there, they are looking for something to "stand-out" about your resume. This could be the resume arriving Fed-ex, arrving via a current employee, etc.

Also, once sending/faxing/emailing a resume, you need to follow up with these people. A polite phone call one week after sending something has seemed to work for many others.

This is not meant to sound arrogant in any way, but 1 week after hitting 1200 hours and sending resumes out to potential employers, I was contacted by all of them and invited for interviews. So, the jobs are out there. Good luck to you and keep working.:)

I sent my resume to Flight Express back in 2001 about 15 times and never heard a word from them. Finally, I got in my car, drove to Orlando and cornered the recruiter. I told him I wanted to work there, that I'm a good pilot and a hard worker. He hired me on the spot and I stayed two years. It was no picnic, but it was the best thing I could have done for my flying career. I left FLX 10x the pilot I was when I started.

Isn't Ram Air the place where you used to have to fill out that online app. that has some kind of rating scale. I just remember a company a few years ago that did that and was real big on Piper time. Anyways, IHF I am going to be in big "D" again this week so give me a call.

Ram Air doesn't have an online app... Just email and/or fax your resume to Jerome, our chief pilot. Follow up with him a couple days later. We are starting another class very soon. Mx is above average. The people are great to work with and for. Come on over!!

Been there, done that sister and lucky to still be alive! Just Kidding.

I must have them confused with someone else. This was a couple of years ago though.

It looks like we are all trying to sell our companies, FLX, Ram Ex, Airnet, Race City, etc. We must all need days off. By the way, John Glenn, where is our standby/reserve guy?

Fingers crossed!

No, you don't. I was working there a couple years ago when no regionals were hiring and our ACP was a bit of a computer geek. He did the online/rating thing as a way to weed out the hundred or so faxed resumes we were getting a week. Great group of guys/gals while I was there; I think all but 3 of us or so have moved on now.

Airnet

I got hired at Airnet with 1150 hours. I know of people in recent classes with under 1000 hours. I do agree though you have to show more interest in the job than just sending a resume if you want to get any responses. I kept updating my flight times last summer and fall and finally when I got to 1100 hours I called Craig Washka and left a message then two weeks later when I didn't get a response I emailed him figuring he was too busy to return phone calls. He emailed me back 8 minutes later and said he would be in contact soon. Three days later I got the call for the interview with 1150 hours. Im sure other companies are the same, but Craig definately wants to see that you are interested in this company. Which means following up with whatever company you want to work for. This is a great place to work, top mx, great people, great training, fly all over the US.

Rumor has it slightly over a year, but I talked to a guy when I interviewed in Dec. that got into the lear in 8 months. I was the second class of 05 and there have already been 6 or 7 classes finished after me. Classes are about a month long, new one about every 2 weeks. So I already have like 20-30 people below me on the list. As for me Im about 70 people away from a jet slot, but I guess it's been kinda slowing up lately from what I hear. Just had 3 more people ahead of me leave though. Thats 3 people closer:D . Even if I were in the props longer than that I would be just happy, alot more money than a regional, and you are building multi PIC time. I also had a jet sic friend that made it to jet pic in 7 months. So if in 2-3 years I can be building jet pic time, rather than being stuck with only sic time at a regional for up to 5 years (guessing at the 5 years), then I think Airnet has been a great opportunity for me.

Redpen, PM me if there's anything else I can answer or help you out with.
