What do we gain when a pilot dies? What legacy does he leave?

He leaves us a lesson of the events that caused his passing, so that we may fly in greater safety.

A small consolation to the friends and family of those of us who experience a tragic accident is that we were doing what we love at the time of our exit from this stage. Is there a better way? I doubt it.

Godspeed.

I still remember vividly the first time I lost a pilot buddy. He was a super sharp guy that had the misfortune of getting into a box canyon. He and his pax missed clearing the ridge by less than 100 feet. It was an awful feeling then and it still is now. We try to learn from the mistakes of the fallen. We all make mistakes and it's important that we not get egotistical simply because we haven't made one that is irrecoverable.
Fly Safe and Godspeed
