"I'm hungry" and "I'm tired" is what I hear most. The FAA is so concerned about alcohol and drug abuse, perhaps they should be more concerned about malnourishment and fatigue. Does anyone DISAGREE?

Our aviators are in a sad state of survival.

Is there a problem with pretzels and pop? That seems to keep the tech's sustained.....

jk bro! :)

How did you ever survive while instructing?

Don't be a whiny b!tch...wander to any large town USA and go work at a shelter and soup kitchen for a night...those people are hungry. Go to a third world country and watch people die from malnutrition. You (neither do I) have no idea what it is like to be hungry, so don't pretend you do.

If you just now realized, when you got your first paycheck, that the pay is so low where have you been? I'm not saying the pay is good, but if you didn't plan for it or didn't know it was so bad...FCUKING QUIT.

Boo freaking who...go change your tampon.

Better yet... I think we should start using homeless people and starving third world populations AS food sources. Granted, it will take a lot of skinnies to make a significant amount of hamburger, but with an efficient processing plant, it could be done.

I think the tamale man that comes around here selling his stuff may already have that market cornered.....

First not everyone instructed so we can't compare.

Second, with $hitier schedules making long days and no break times etc fatigue is becoming a big factor. The FAA (history has shown) only ever act when blood has been spilled. They are aware of it but are unwilly to do anything about it. You can bet that when (if) they try the ATA will be jumping up and down trying to stop it.

"Pilot fatigue" has been at the top of the NTSB's "Most Wanted" list for many years, but the FAA (probably at the urging of the ATA) has so far, turned a mostly deaf ear. There HAS been blood spilled where pilot fatigue was listed as, at minimum, a contributing factor...see AA in LIT or several FedEx accidents, but still, the FAA refuses to update the atiquated rest and flight time regulations.

There is a difference between non-working soup kitchen "patrons" and a gainfully employed professional. I did soup kitchens in high school as a service project for confirmation, and I can say that from the people I have encountered there, very few were "down on luck". Mostly, these guys were too wrapped up in a drug problem or too lazy to work. Give THEM a boo hoo.

Quitting will do nothing...perhaps you need some fight in you, QUITTER!

If you think that "someone has it worse" is an excuse for the poor wages of professional pilots at regional airlines, please, do us all a favor and YOU quit. People like you are the reason that it's this way. Sounds like you're another one of those kids who had someone else carry you all the way. Had you worked hard enough for this, you'd expect better.

Hey Terry,

I dont know if you are in a position to judge how hard any of us has worked toward this career, but I don't believe you can sit back in your chair and claim you don't know what it is like. It's a hard road, starting right at the begining. I thought I had a good flight instructing job and I only pulled down $500 bucks a month in the winter.......with school loans that's a pain in the a$$!
$hit, my school loans total more than that per month.
Hey Terry knock knock..........

Besides...I get the feeling this guy did not CFI. Had he done that, he'd expect better from an airline career.

BTW...$500 a month in the winter for a CFI would have been GOOD for a CFI where I statrted out.
Builds character....

Reading again, and he did CFI for quite a while......It was my pleasure working with him.

I think I'm missing your point, and your missing his and he's missing yours.

However, nobody's b!tching about their job.

How could they? There is no reason why new hire F/As at some regionals should be making more than new hire F/Os at another! That is just wrong. Reduced rest overnights and no meal breaks on 7 leg days make for an unsafe crew.

Maybe it is time for a career change. If you work in the fast food business they will pay you better, and you get discounted meals. Maybe if you work really hard you could even become a Shift Leader or Assistant Manager. The sky is the limit.

I agree that the pay sucks, but this is something I had known going into this. I wish I had planned a little better myself, had some cash saved up, but I didn't,so now I live close to paycheck to paycheck.

Different people expect different things.........I don't think one person should "quit" based on that however. I keep telling myself things will be better at the next level. Based on current payscales I may be wrong, but why quit now!

By the way, if I do take a job at a Fast Food place, at least they pay for the uniform! Well, the shirt anyway.

Take care

Tired Also

Nonstop. I do agree with you. I have been flying for a regional for 4 1/2 years now out of STL. We have a couple of scheduled lines that just have an OVERNIGHT and that is all. You guys should see the flight crew come in at around 6:30 am and stumble into the crew room. Even though it is only ONE flight, getting to the hotel around 845pm and then getting up at 4:30 am SUCKS. I dare any of you who have not done a schedule like that to try it just for 4 days. For me, Sleeping is difficult during the day time so I will get about 5 hours of sleep in a strange bed with kids running up and down the hall ways untill Ohhh Mid Night. Try calling the front desk just to find out that nothing will be done about it.

Nonstop is right. The FAA and congress are too concerned about whether a Pilot payed for a beer with his credit card during dinner. They should get up and fly with us on just one FULL Sequence and see if maybe the rules for crew rest should be changed.

The fun does not stop with just a short over night. Now try flying 8 legs back and forth all day long with a DUTY day of near 16 hours ( Yes its legal ). Lets just say that by the end of it you are worn out. Now you have 2 more days to look forward to.

Regional airlines are a great place to go if you are an insomniac and love macaroni and cheeze.

If you dont believe me, PM me and I will get you a couple of passes to see what we really deal with in the real world

BTW Mike. Your an A$$. With only 2000 hours I doubt seriously that you even have the first hint of a clue as to what we are talking about. Please shut up and leave this to the professionals.

My hats off to you Skyypimp.... I feel your pain with those schedules... doing the same myself this week... except we get in (land) at 1145pm, with a 5am departure... not fun. Did it in the Jball way back when, and at least now have an autopilot to help in the morning...

Is it "legal" on paper? Yes. Is it the safest thing out there? I think we all know the answer to that. Does the FAA care? I think we know the answer to that too.

This industry is sliding deeper and deeper into the crapper, maybe I should just buy that pretzel cart on Ebay and work in the park!

Maybe that's why all our F/A's hand us bags of pretzels every day.... And here I thought it was because they were being nice.
