Two die in small plane crash in Westchester

Saturday April 23, 2005
WHITE PLAINS (AP) Two people were killed Saturday when a small plane crashed in a wooded area near Westchester County Airport, authorities said.

The Cessna 172 was about a quarter of a mile from a runway at the airport when radar and radio communications were lost, said Holly Baker, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The aircraft was found 1{ to 2 miles northwest of the airport, Baker said. Just two people were aboard, and both were killed, she said.

Baker said she did not have information about the victims, but she said they apparently were practicing instrument landing approaches when the plane crashed just before 3:30 p.m.

Both the FAA and the NTSB would be investigating, she said.

Flyforyou Please,

Do NOT post these things in the frax forum unless you know for a fact it was a fractional flight that had the problem. I'm sure I speak for many Flops, NJ, CS, Flex etc. folks when I say any time we hear of a new incident our heart sinks. We all have impeccable safety records and all fear the day a blemish appears on them. None of us, no matter what comapny we work for, wants it to happen to us. An untarnished safety record is one great thing we have in our field of work.

Don't get me wrong, we all feel bad about all accidents but next time do us frax pilots a favor and save us the momentary trauma and post these things in the General Forum.

Thanks,
Guido

How about instead of worrying about your "impeccable safety record," you take a moment to worry about the families of those two people who died today.

Yes, a better location for this post would have been the "general" section, but not b/c of the reason you stated above.

Dude did you see the wx today? It sucked. How did he think he was going to land?

Illinois,
Don't try to lecture me. If you'd read my post through you'd see I DID mention the fact that we all grieve for airplane accidents, especially when they cost the lives of others. Don't try to paint me as insensitve just because I am aware of one of the reasons I have a job. To let you know, we all know that the first time one of the fractionals has a fatal accident, we're probably finsihed as a company. So to put this is perspective to you, try to imagine an Illinois aviator forum. Then imagine somebody starts a thread that says Fighting Illinni's family killed, might cost him his job! Then to read further you find out it's a misprint and it was really a family of Fighting Irish's that should have been posted in the Indiana forum. Don't tell me you wouldn't be a little perturbed at the unnecessary fright that was caused to you. You'd feel bad for Fighting Irish's losses but deep down you'd be thanking the Lord it was him and not you. Now call me a liar.

you took what I said a little too far...and NO, I'm not calling you a liar.
Yes you did mention that "we all grieve for airplane accidents." What bothered me was that you immediately followed it up with the insensitive remark about worrying about your @ss.

Your example is flawed. Yes, this accident was posted on the "Fractional Forum." But it was not posted under the title of "EJA Accident" or "CS accident" or "FlexJet Accident" or "Options Accident." Now...if this whole thread had been posted under "<insert company name here> has an accident at HPN," then yes, you could get upset and then your example would work. But that is not how it was written.

To reiterrate <sp?>, the reason your post rubbed me the wrong way was because of the way you made a quick mention about how terrible an accident is, then you immediately moved onto worrying about yourself.
You could have gotten your point across with a bit more tact, is all I'm saying.

Could it be the original poster knows that HPN is probably the third Mecca of fractional aviation and figured maybe someone on this board might have been there the day of the accident and has some information they can share?

I'm sure he/she in no way insinuated or was linking the accident to any frax operator.

Back to the original topic, I've heard the Cessna belonged to American Flyers.

And I heard today that a FlexJet aircraft declared an emergency due to hydraulic failure and it landed normally. Had to be towed off the runway.

This is not a public mourning board. Take that $hit elsewhere.

Who gives a rats a$$ were it's posted? Grow up!!!!

My thread has relevant information to this topic. I was simply letting people know where they can find additional information; this is the point of a message board.

It wasn't directed towards you futurama. Sorry for the confusion.

The opening thread was posted, I guess, in the Frax forums and someone didn't like that.
