Just what flight info needs, another SWA thread.

OK, so it's been a year since I had my first chance to interview at my dream airline. The wait to reapply wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Now, a new wait begins, the wait for another phone call from Southwest. Over the past year I have accumulated another 800 hours jet PIC and I now have 5 internal SWA recs as opposed to 1 last year. Does that help me at all? What's normal for getting a second interview? All the recent good SWA news has me really fired up.

I heard a nasty rumor that only around 4% of pilots that reapply at SWA after getting turned down on the first interview ever get a second interview. I am thinking that that rumor isn't true. I'd love to hear from anyone that has ever gotten that second interview.

Thanks

Also hoping for a second chance !!!

Hey Lovegun, I know how you feel. I had my first chance in Feb 05 and then got the TBNT letter Mar 05. Counted the days for that year to go by. Eagerly reapplied Feb 06 and still waiting. I even went to the Air. Inc. Conference at DFW in Jan 06 to personally meet the SWA recruiters again, to try and make a good impression and put my face to the re-application they would see in Feb 06. I even asked them if it would take long to get the call for a second interview (with my 737 type already) and they all assured me that it should not, just be sure to reapply. So now I keep updating my info about every two weeks and keep in touch with my internal contacts (pilots at SWA). I do not want to bother my contact at the people department but I give it another month or two and I just might have to. I believe that some past threads had said you need to call the people department to have your info re-activated, but I can neither confirm or deny that.
Anyone with some information please help two fellow pilots out. Sounds like both of us are trying -again- to get on with our dream airline, so any help or information that you all might have would be greatly appreciated. For everyone else still trying for the first chance, keep trying, networking, updating, 737 type rating, getting more PIC time, etc. The interview experience alone is worth it and you leave the interview wanting even more to work for SWA than you thought you did when you went into it.
Good Luck to us all and anyone with helpful info please post.
Many Thanks and Be safe.

call...

FWIW. I called Lindsey at the People Dept. a year to the day after my Dec '04 interview. She said she'd set up my app. info so it would come up again.
I'm still waiting too. Good luck to all....

Hope for the future...

I interviewed April 04 and got the thumbs down. After a year I revisited SWA at Higher Power, called occaisionally, and went to Air Inc. in DFW. I had been harrasing them for about a year when I finally got a call this month for an interview. Waiting to hear........SWA is my only hope. :D

Good luck, keep flying, keep trying.

Some tid bits: they seem to be calling with only 10-14 days notice before an available interview date (with options for later dates), so keep your logs and app up to date, and your contacts close by to get letters together quickly. It can be very difficult to make this all happen while on 4-day trips.

They are rumored to be going through typed applicants like hot cakes, although there were 2 in my group that didn't have the type. They are going full steam ahead in both interviews and class dates.
