It is a gender thing... or a job that pays so pathetic and allows you only to jerk gear for a Napoleon complex tool who cant handle a truly qualified guy/gal sitting next to him.

Because everybody knows that he is just pulling gear. I would be surprised if he even gets to fly a dead leg. Besides, instructing is a huge part of the learning curve in aviation. People put a lot of value in having some instructing experience. I didn't say he should stop flying the G4, just do some instructing on the side.

If someone looks at his resume when he gets 1500 hours, they know it is pretty much switch time.

See the funny thing is G200, even in all of YOUR perfection, I don't think you would have done anything differently than I did. So bash me all you want O' perfect one, I hope I can be just like you one day:rolleyes:

Like Semperfido said you have to start somewhere and I am quite sure you didn't start in a GLEX.

I really think all of the PFT flamers on these message boards are the same type of people who would look "over the fence" in a bar bathroom just to compare swords, and then try to fight the ones that they don't measure up to.

To answer your question Dinger, yes they let me fly it but not being typed I can't log it as PIC, so I agree with you on the switch time thing. That's why I'm exploring other options as far as my days off.

Thanks to all who could answer my question without getting all emotional about something that wasn't even a part of it (my TT), I appreciate the input.:)
 
I'd sure love to know how this owner gets insurance with an 800 hour guy in the right seat. He must pay an ASTRONOMICAL rate. A Citation, or a check-hauling Lear, I can see it. But a GIV?
 
Simple... just by telling the insurance company the FO's got 3500 hours..bla bla bla... I can guarantee you that in most cases, the insurance company never even checked the actual log books...

easy fella, Im not slamming on you, Im slamming on your employer.

You took that job just as anyone else most likely would have at 800hrs -- BUT - there is always a catch to a job where an 800hr guy flys a GIV (not including shoe-ins like relatives, etc..) and the catch is that it is usually a sub-par weird outfit run by a little Napoleon. Thats all I was saying...Im not faulting you...If you dont check the female or minority box at 800 hrs -- you are a gear jerker for the fella who cant handle another qualified guy in the cockpit. How many GIVs fly around without TWO typed pilots?? $hit...

But I would either get the rating and run or look to build real time elsewhere. People like to see some PIC time - and if thats NOT in your future you should move on. IMHO.

If you can turn it into a rating and some real time, you're in a good spot. If not I personally think you may paint yourself into a corner as a professional SIC.

There are many companies out there with a long-standing relationship with an particular insurance company that are given blanket authority to approve any pilot. As long as the DO or chief pilot approves the pilot, it doesn't matter what the flight times are. Flight times matter more when doing charters and having to qualify for Wyvern, ARG/US, etc.
 
Makes sense....but good grief....if it were up to me, I'd WANT somebody with some experience in my right seat so when the blankety blank hits the fan, I've got someone that can make my job easier. 800 hours doesn't do that.

Well, in that case my apologies for coming off angry, its just that defending my credentials is becoming the norm for me and I don't treat people any differently than I would want to be treated. Where I'm from the Golden Rule still means something.:)

I totally agree with what your saying with the PIC thing. I'm supposed to get typed in November when I go for recurrent. As far as getting the job in the first place, I worked with Gulfstreams for a while before I got hired and my employer has a good relationship with our insurance company. I know of people with less time than me doing the same thing if you can believe it-for a pretty good company too. There isn't much that surprises me in corporate any more as far as flight times. Its all who you know, and your personality.

The last charter place I was working for had a thing with their insurance company that would let anyone fly in the right seat as long as they had current school, regardless of time. Getting them to pay for school though for an unqualified individual was hard part.

It seems like you've had this job for awhile. You're going to your first recurrent in November? How often do you guys go to school? I'm not knocking your TT but having an 800hr co-pilot who isn't in sim school at least every 6 months is sketchy. There are a lot of Gulfstream operators in my area (SoCal) and every single crewmember I'm aware of goes to school every 6 months. There's something strange about a GIV operator having an 800hr co-pilot and then skimping on school.

If the reason they hired you over other higher-time, better qual'ed pilots is because of an above-average personality, you shouldn't have trouble finding a better gig.

Negative on the PacJet thing. Wrong Coast, better fishin and duck huntin over here:)

I'd prefer not to into detail about where I came from or who I work for, this business is too small and me in writing and me in person are two different things, don't want to give anyone any false impressions on my personality. I think a couple of people have it figured out and I'd like to think that these types of issues are mutually respected.

I just went through recurrent before I came here, so that's when I'm up- in Nov.
